Am in my late 70's but still play golf at least twice a week if possible. Handicap now 20.
Have decided to buy another driver for the new season - but which one?
Unlike the gentlemen of G.M. I do not have the facility to try many different models and the pros/ golf shops only keep a limited range and are naturally reluctant to get other clubs from different manufacturers unless I am pretty certain to buy. In turn, I am reluctant to commit myself until I have actually tried the club hence, stalemate.

Have tried manufacturers Demo days but these have only helped to a limited degree as there are so many different models out there from different manufacturers and it's impossible to get to them all.

Are there any senior golfers out there with handicaps around mine who have bought a new driver in the past year or so
and can make a recommendation for me?

Price range (say) £150/200, preferably a light graphite shaft and (say) 12 degree loft.

Any ideas will be welcome and appreciated.

I'm not a senior golfer fella but have you had a look at the Cleveland CG Black Driver? Very light shaft in that one and it looks the business.

I'm not senior golf yet (I am 42) but the best results I got when fitted for my driver was a Ping G15 with 13.5 degrees of loft and soft regular (senior) shaft. I hit it much further, straighter and more consistently than any other driver.

Again i am not a senior golfer but if you want a light shaft then Cleveland is the way to go

Hate to be rude,I have just bought a Tour Edge bazooka driver ,brand new for 60 quid,10.5 loft and it is just fantastic, have a look on their site ,or ebay.they also have the "exotics" range all different lofts for £150,take a look for yourself.

I am using a borrowed Ping G15 at the moment and it really fires off the face, even off the slight miss hits. Pick them up for £110 new now

I've had good reviews of players using the ping I15 with 11deg regular flex axivcore red shaft. One of the northeast GM society uses one and beats the rest of the field hands down. Mind you he's a a low handicapper with a magical putter :p

titleist 910 drivers are less than £150 brand new. best value about imo !! you can pick up some serious bargins 2nd hand!!

Whereabouts are you? If SW London isn't too far, try Golfbidder. Good quality second hand stuff with an American Golf range 5 minutes away, try a few, take one away you like and you've got a 7 day no quibble return on it, try it on your course, if it isn't the one take it back & try another. They are here;

I don't understand why you can't try other players drivers to get the feel you need? Although, having said that, until recently there weren't a lot of the more modern (lightweight shaft) drivers in our senior bags - so maybe that's the problem...

Until recently the driver that seemed to have made it's way into many senior bags was the 09 Burner in regular shaft, but the current club of choice seems to be the standard RBZ, standard shaft 12 degree. You should be able to get one within your budget. The ooposition in Wed's match were full of 'praise' for the way a 73 year old/17 h'cap was driving with one!

If your budget can run to it then - http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=251223062651 which also has a small amount of adjustability (hozel) so you could tweak how it sets up for you if necessary.

Finding a good 12 degree SH is getting increasingly difficult as more and more professional opinions are voiced recommending them to 'amateur players'!

This would probably suit well too -

there's a burner 12/std here though...
