Hit my new Srixon 506 for the first time today, went like a dream - maybe have to hang onto this one!

Since I restarted playing golf in 2003 I have gone through the following drivers, apologies to any I may have omitted-

Ben Sayers Big Ben,
Ram 440,
Taylor made 580R,
Srixon XXI0,
Ping SI3,
Titleist 983K,
Cleveland Launcher,
Nike Ignite 9.5,
Callaway ERCII,
Nike Ignite 10.5,
Nike Sasquatch,
Srixon 403AD,
Callaway FT3 Tour,
Titleist 905R,
Taylor Made R7 425 TP
Srixon 506.

best for me, which in a driver is basically length, were the Nike Ignites, this 506 goes very well on todays evidence. Cripes I wonder how much ££ I've wasted on that lot, most were second hand though.

I'm sorry about this pointless post but my Missus is watching Cranford or Stanford or something like that, some awful period drama on BBC that seems to go on forever! At least I got 18 holes in today.

Forgan Rocket (played it until I broke the face off the head!!)
Callaway Biggest BB 9deg firm
Callaway 8.5deg stiff black shaft...very difficult to get good distance on but went as straight as anything
Callaway 8.5deg firm
Nike Titanium 400cc (no model number stamped)temp driver for a few months,
Srixon W506 9.5deg with stiff v2 shaft.

Im going to stick with this driver, its not any longer than the callaways etc but definately a solid driver that serves me well when Im not trying to shape it too much.
My old callaways were all basically the same club only with a shaft change midway due to advice from my teaching pro at the time, I just couldnt shift it more than 230 yards, I worked out at the time that I was losing 30+ yards but it went straight every time.

Bleeding hell, birdieman. You're a driver freak.

I've been playing 27 years now (with a big 15 year gap) and had 5 drivers in my life.

1 A SuperMex Persimmon wood
2 Some steel headed thing I can't even remember
3 A Mizuno Blue Rage steel headed thingy
4 A Taylormade 580xd and now
5 Titleist 907 D1

Loving the Titleist above all else (no surprise there then)

Just to conplete the set I forgot I had a Wilson Dd5 a couple of years ago.
In my first stint at golf aged 15-20 I didn't have a driver when I started, just a Range Master 2 wood. That was replaced with a Ryder Mk III driver and then later with a Taylor Made burner thing, 8.5 deg, steel shaft and a head about the size of a 50p! I tried to trade it in at the Kings Links pro shop in Aberdeen, in 2003, but was tactfully declined!!

ive averaged about 1.5 drivers per year playing - always between 8.5 and 10 deg.

i have recently found that my best match is a 12 deg tho! Most people don’t sell them with stiff shafts "off the shelf" however

Wilson deep red - rubbish
Callaway BB - borrowed so never really mine - quite good
Mizuno MP001 420 cc - nice
Ping G5 - love it and will use it until it breaks - then I will buy another.

Maybe consider Cobra after all thats been written on here, plus my friend has a steel drum , sorry I mean F-Speed and it goes like stink.

Maybe consider Cobra after all thats been written on here,

I forgot, I also had Cobra 440sz in 2005, trying to forget about it, easily the worst driver I've ever played. I would steer well clear of Cobra after my experience of their drivers. Love their baffler hybrids though!

Strangely I don't change putters that often. Find one that works, and stick with it. Drivers on the other hand....

As for irons, I have been playing 20 years, so 5 sets (6 if you count duplicates) is only one set every 4 years. Not that bad, although the Clevelands didin't last long. Nice clubs, but I fancied a move back to blades, and the right set at a fantastic price came up.

1992 Titleist Tour Model
1996 Callaway Big Bertha Warbird
2003 Cleveland Launcher 400

Given the advantageous Euro-Dollar rate I shall buy a new one in America next year, either PING G10 or Mizuno MX560
