• We'd like to take this opportunity to wish you a Happy Holidays and a very Merry Christmas from all at Golf Monthly. Thank you for sharing your 2025 with us!

DQed but at least I still got cut.

I didn't realise you could still get a cut even though you are DQ-ed from the competition, I'd have assumed it was an automatic +0.1. Interesting, and I wonder if that is applied universally at all clubs.

Yes, it's rules of the handcapping system. Most common DQ's would still count but if you were DQ'd for something that may have helped your score, say playing with illegal clubs then it would be disregarded......basically, if you did the score you get the cut.

If you don't sign a cheque, then it doesn't get paid. It's one of the rules of golf, it stems mainly from pre computer age when the handicap committee would have to check/ cross check all of the cards rather than goy by masterscoreboard or HDID.

when I started playing golf, a long time ago we were given lessons on rules by the youth team coach as part of or Wednesday night sessions, signing of card one of the basics. I forgot to sign mine few weeks ago, I was so annoyed with myself.

Well done on the cut and hard lines on the DQ. Like the OP I would have been happy enough with the cut, that's the main objective for me. I'm willing to bet that mistake won't be repeated in a hurry though.

As previously mentioned, those are the rules of the comp and they are quite clear. If you don't like the rules don't enter the comp and if you aren't able to enter the comp don't whinge about them! Quite simple really.

if its a good card i check it multiple times before its put in the box, as i reckon there might be winnings in it for me.

i've found the odd scoredcard unsigned in the back pocket later in the week, but only the 0.1 ones.

When I was on the handicap committee at one of my previous clubs I got sent into the bar to tell the scratch leader in the club championship that he'd not signed his card and was DQ'd after the first of four rounds - club captain, who was leading the handicap, was a bit officious and said to the guy 'That will teach you' or something along those lines only for me to tell him that he was in the same position as he hadn't signed his either - he wasn't best pleased.

Couldn't believe that I had to disqualify both scratch and handicap leaders.

Has anyone ever had a penalty for carrying to many clubs, I have never looked in a FC bag to see how many, they could have 20 for all I know lol

I remember marking the card for a team comp at my old club once. Anyway I get home and put all my stuff away in spare room as usual.

Goes back to my stuff later that night to check all is in order for he Sunday and found in my bag the bloody card!

Had a few calls the next morning from players worried about a possible ban etc
