Just got back from 5 days at the Download Festival. The attraction of seeing AC/DC live overcam my inhibitions and the worry about spending 5 days in a tent with a field full of much younger, full on metal fans.

Anyway, had a great time and was so impressed by how readily my wife and I were accepted into the groups of other festival goers. Changed my opinions about 'the youth of today' who, whilst alot louder than I remember in my day, were helpful, friendly and very good company.

As for the festival, if you are remotely interested and get to see AC/DC I would thoroughly recommend it. 2 hours of some of the best on stage action that I have ever seen, nobody came close to that level of excellence, energy, crowd interaction and sheer spectacle.

Spent much of the rest of the time seeing some of the smaller bands there and there were a number that I will now be putting on my Ipod. For those who like the Foo Fighters have a look at Taylor Hawkin's band, The Coattail Riders. Only given a 25 minute set but were superb, and Dave Grohl was in the audience so my wife was happy.

Anyway, lessons learned from the weekend, I am not too old to go to festivals, I can handle camping, you still cannot beat seeing rock and metal live and I had become far to blinkered in my opinions of teenagers etc and really should know better at my age....

Don't be too hard on me but I am the owner of 2 Guns n Roses tickets for Belfast (my 30th a few days before).

I cant wait - Always wanted to see GNR live from I was a teenie - broke me when they split up. And I totally refused to agree that GNR was alive unless it included Axl, Slash, Izzy and Duff. By chance (did not know they where playing Belfast) I decided to get Chineese Democracy and major shock time - I LOVED it!!!! So I cant wait till I get to see them live.

Don't think ther is any chance of me ever seeing Slash plucking a chord live - but it may get me into the mood for a few more concerts.

Was really surprised that Slash and his band played a set mainly consisting of GnR classics. The whole place stopped to listen to Sweet Child of Mine.

He was just down as Slash and was playing with a new lead singer who was pretty good. Played some new stuff, loads of GnR tracks and had Lemmy guest on one track as well.
