Does anybody else find the 'new' 'New Posts' function annoying?

Almost all of my activity is done thru the 'New Posts' tag.

This function has recently changed the way it works - so it shows more like 'Unread Posts' (and not even that actually).

If I've accessed the last page, either to read the last post or to actually make a post - or even simply make a post without accessing the unread ones - the thread disappears from the list if I then click on 'New Posts' again. Comes back when someone else makes a post, but I find it very annoying. I'd sooner it stayed on the list as previously - with my user indicating that I was the last one to post in the thread.

And it also means that I don't see any thread that I've started until someone else posts in it!

Am i the only one that this annoys?

Hi Foxholer.
The function was broken as in It was not working correctly before. The function is new posts as opposed to latest posts. The system is now fixed. I also use the site from the new posts area myself and find it much better that it now works correctly as it was meant to. The separation of posts that have unread replies but not since last visit is good.
Now that the function is fixed it cannot be unfixed as the repair was done in the update.

The only thing I can suggest is that you go to forum actions then select Mark all forums read. Then select New Posts and you can choose posts in the past 24hrs and that will display all latest posts by time. The update sees New=Unread as opposed to New=Latest.

How can I see the latest posts?

There are two ways to quickly view recently created or updated threads.

If you are not logged in, the 'today's posts' link will show a list of all threads that have been created or updated in the last 24 hours.

If you are logged in, the 'Today's Posts' link will change to 'New Posts', which gives you a listing of all threads that have been created or updated since your last visit.

The administrator can also set up the forums so that each thread you read is marked in the database. If this option is set, then new threads (or threads with new posts) will not be marked as read until you have actually read them.

There is a built-in time limit to this, however, that will automatically mark all threads as 'read' after a set number of day, whether you really have read them or not. The default setting is 10 days, but the administrator could make this higher or lower.

Notice that it talks about 'last visit', which equals log-in. So I'm certain that threads with a post added by me in 'this' session should show. That's what I find most annoying - they simply disappear until someone else posts.

I think someone's pulling someone's 'whoopsie' about inability to change too. I have seen a slightly different entry (well earlier I saw one) that mentioned the ability of an Administrator to toggle the way that list is displayed.

Anyway, I'll mark that as 1 annoyed and 1 happy. Should probably have made this thread a poll!

I find it a pain.
I used it all the time but now, to me, it's a worthless button.
If I add a post to a thread it vanishes from "New Posts" until someone else posts on it. What if I want to add another post before anyone else? I have to find it through "Today's Post" button.
Ok it's not that big a deal but it's an extra click every time.
I just use Todays Posts now.
I prefered it when it was broken...

Yes and No

Todays Posts gave you every thread added to in the last 24 hours
New posts gave you every thread added to since you last looked.
So if you looked at 10am then again at 2pm, New Posts would show all threads added to since 10am.
It still does taht with the exception of threads that you're the last to post on.

Like I said it's not that big a deal, just have to get out of the habit of punching 1 button

Gotcha.

As I said I like it. Basically because it discards all the posts that I've seen and I can see what I haven't seen much easier than before when all the posts stayed there.

Now I can see the amount of topics I need to read decreasing until it gets until there are none appearing or until I know that I've read all I want to read(topics remain that I already know don't interest me) and mark all forums read to reset everything.

I find this much better and realistically how often do you need to go back and reply on your own topic? And even if you do it's usually because you've seen something that needs edited which means you are reading it after its posted.
