at your club campionship final?
Just wondered if you get many spectators or is just the two golfers out on there own.
Are spectators allowed?
Never made a final myself.

Normally you get a few out on the course, say 20 or so, but in front of the club house coming down 18 there would be 60 or more having a beer, waiting for the results. Last two years it has come down to the 36th hole, so it has been good for the galleries.

I remember when I got through to the final of the "Mary Rose Flagons" at Crowborough Beacon one year.
As I walked onto the 18th green there were about 100 people stood on the balcony and a massive great cheer went up "IT'S SMIFFY!!!!"
I felt so embarassed....

I wish I hadn't shouted it now
:o :o :o :o :o :o

Closest to that i've had was playing second shot into the 18th on the old course.
We tee'd off early doors and there was nobody around, by the time we came in the town was packed
the most nervous shot i've ever played.... luckily i put it in the middle of the green and walked off with 4.
All i was thinking was " dont sh**k it into Russacks bay window " lol :D

Partner took birdie and got a good round of applause in American and Japanese.

Yes Bob

At Goswick you are lucky if there is 1 man and his dog,bit of an apathy all round when it comes to scratch golf but at The Hirsel this year I was most surprised this year to see 30 plus folk watching when I caddied for Screwback in the final.....and apparently that was a smaller than usual crowd.

Nice to see and it is how it should be in all clubs.

At my old place we played 36 holes over 2 days - all strokeplay so you never knew who'd won till the cards we added up.
One year we did get a play-off over 4 holes and about 40 of us went out to put a bit of extra pressure on the 2 players.

When I won in the final of our one day matchplay event (9 holes) there was quite a few watching maybe 30 or so I had it finished by the 5 hole, quite a long walk back for the spectators!

Our club champs are strokeplay so no-one really knows until the cards are added up which in a way is a bit of an anti-climax. We do get a few going out on finals day and following the singles and pairs knockout matches.

We have Finals Day where all the various Championship finals are played. The course is closed and the various finals matches start off at specific times. By the afternoon round there can be quite a number out on the course watching the various matches. Prizegiving usually takes place around 5.30 on the Sunday evening and the place is usually buzzing by then. It's a good day out usually.
