Hi all

Not played golf for 10 years but me and my son now getting back into the game (or were before lockdown) via some fun trips to the range. Anyway can see us really getting into it. My clubs are old - about 20 years! - cavity backed Regal Axxis. I can find a similar set on eBay for about £30. So my question is, are these going to hold me back compared to more modern irons, or are they basically fine for now? Cheers.

Yes they will but potentially yes they may be.

Use them a few times out on the course, whenever that may be, and see if you still like the game. If so then upgrade. You don't need to go brand new, look at any of the main mfrs ranges from the last 5 years. All should be way more forgiving than your 20yr old ones. There will be a definite difference.

Clubs 20 yrs old might have problems with rust in the shaft.
The glue on the heads might be a bit brittle .
Grips will probably be shot.
All depends how they were stored.
Newer models now will be so much more forgiving and will help you enjoy your golf more imo.
Don’t go mad but a second hand set of ping / Callaway cavity back irons will help.
Just buy one set and try them between you.
