Disqualified!!

thats no different from a load of matches getting played on the course??

You can play strokeplay before matchplay but not even matchplay before strokeplay.

Not sure if thats what you were referring to??

What time of day were you down there Mitchelld ?
I know at our club, the course is closed before the first tee times on any day where there is a gents competition with an early start.

Put it down to experience and go out there next week and play your heart out. :D

It's a steep learning curve this.

I did the same thing this time last year when playing for handicap. Was dully sent packing and no mistake. We've not even allowed on the practice area before a stroke comp which i find annoying.

One thing is for sure, you'll never do it again!

Going for my handicap in april so i'm glad I read this. unlucky mate, rules are hellish at times.

Not sure why i seem astonished by it - i wave my 7 iron around a few times on the Tee and start my round. That rule wouldn't deprieve me of anything!!

Not allowed to warm up - Have i read that right?
On who's authority can't you practice before a comp? I'd be having words about that one. You are allowed to practice to your hearts content on the practice ground before any comp.

As long as the practice area isn't on part of the designated course (the practice ground at Wimbledon Common was the edge of the 2nd fairway so couldn't be used before a comp) then you can go onto the practice field and hit as many balls as you like without fear of a D/Q.

I guess the only thing that would stop you is if you were first out and the club had specific opening times for the practice ground (which seem unlikely). I'd be asking the question in a very direct manner.

Not to worry OP... you're not the only one to be disqualified this weekend.

I've been playing the game for 15 years or so and was DQed today for the first ever time. I'd just hit my drive on the 10th and as i put my driver back in the bag i noticed i had 15 clubs in the bag.

Told my playing partners straight away. Felt like a bit of a chump! Lesson learned!!

Why DQ'd for that?

Yes. Rule 4.4 :
2 strokes per hole penalty but a maximum of 4 strokes per round.

Isn't that just a 2 stroke penalty for every hole up to a max of 4 strokes per round with the excess club/s declared out of play?

Didn't know that lads. It was a stableford, so not sure what the procedure would have been? I had 2 points on the first and then 2 points on the second, so should i just have been awarded scratches on both holes?

oops sorry you discovered your mistake on the 10th, not sure now but the pro would have told you, not to worry now and you wont do it again (hopefully) For what it's worth I always carry a rule book, the proshop or secretary will have some free ones to give away. Got me out of trouble a few times mate.
