Diminishing daylight hours .v. increased competitor numbers

How does your club manage this scenario?

A big uptake in our membership numbers during Covid has seen about a c.40% increase in the number of entrants to our Saturday competitions. That is great - but means as daylight hours contract there will, potentially, not physically be enough tee time slots to accomodate everyone who wants to play.

We have a number of ideas floating about - e.g. some groups teeing off on 10th, shortening the course to say 14 holes and one or two others - but interested to hear how other clubs manage this conundrum.

Thanks in anticipation.

This is one of the other solutions put forward for consideration - but it hasn't been welcomed with universal approval.
No comps in the winter but during the season we hold most of our comps over Fridays and Saturdays plus the odd Sunday if required . ATM they all have their own separate CSS, will be called something else come November.
We too have too many members wanting to play in the comps so they have to be over 2/3 days.

We have had a lot of competitions over 2 days and has proved very popular, only downside was if the weather was a lot different over the 2 days the css was the same.

Somewhat annoying where I play.

Following lots of complaints in previous years we stopped winter members from playing on the main course on a Saturday, that has gone by the board this year in the push for more members.

If people pay to have full membership it is one of the problems though. Personally I have said for years that we want new members but do we really want more members who want to play on a Saturday?

Covid has meant our previous alternate 7/8 minutes has gone to 9.

That’s the correct way to do it and we should have done it the same.

A separate CSS has to be calculated for each day. Irrelevant now as PCC will be calculated for each day under WHS

Recent scramble allocated for the Saturday had to flow over until the Sunday to allow everybody who wished to partake participate.

Obviously lead to people then complaining about variation in weather conditions and course difficulty.

Can’t please some folk.

we are trying options to address this - but fair so say that our trying 4ball medal at 8min tee off interval was a total disaster with rounds taking 5hrs plus and many groups walking in.

A 4BBB medal in Autumn? Surely that was never going to work.

4BBB Stablford over 14 holes is what my old club used to do. It worked very well. 14 holes is enough in winter. Throw in the occasional alternative format such as a texas scramble.
