The Yodel man turned up today, largish parcel under one arm and struggling with his machine in the other hand.

As I tried to help by taking the parcel from him he backed away.

" Sorry sir I cannot let you take the parcel until you sign for it"

Apparently they had people take the parcel then slam the door shut.

Our local DHL driver had a more violent version of this. She brought an imported parcel to a domestic who then refused to pay the duty due on it. She started to return to her van and they tried to wrestle it from her. Luckily for her she is a feisty one, got back to her van which automatically locks when the door shuts and drove off without getting hurt. The customer was then blacklisted and told to drive 50 miles to the depot to collect the parcel if they wanted it.

Since that point she leaves imports in the van and goes to the customer to take the payment first of all. Once paid she will get the parcel out of the van.

Delivery drivers get a tough press, and many deserve it, but they also get to deal with an awful lot of unpleasant people, ie the general public.
