Would have posted my review sooner but thought I would try and fix my slice on the range at bowood!
My day started with an early train to Virginia Water and meeting mike for the day ahead! Was good seeing Sunningdale course on the way on the train. Even though it was frozen solid was good to see their hardy members still going for it!
We arrived at wentworth which I havent actually been to before and the facilities there look really good. And we made or way to the Taylor made where I was met by the vision in lime that was Phil!!! Brendy ad the GM and TM guys who were all a friendly bunch. We went through a good presentation on the new designs and specs of the R11S and the RBZ driver. With the RBZ presentation it seemed to be justification for the slightly risky name! And IMO it definitely lives up to it.
First opinions on the gear was that there had been a lot of time go into it. Both RBZ and R11S looked really good at address in both Fairway and Driver. With the main difference being the adjustability options offered by the R11 were more varied.
Brendy was up first, who hit a few irons to warm up and got to work on the Drivers. You could definately tell the R11S was for him much to his shock. He hit a few with a standard setup and tweaked toward what they thought was a better set up and this seemed to spark some good results.
Similar sort of thing with the 3 wood. THe RBZ seemed to not be the best fit for brendy and again few tweaks with the R11S 3 wood and he was away. Brendy was done.
I then got to step up and boldly didnt warm up and got on with it. Grabbing the RBZ 3 wood and topping it no further than 30 yards (thats rocketballz!) About 10 swings later i started gettign to grips with the RBZ 3 Wood. Losing a lot of shots to the right yesterday due to a few minor swing faults. But was honing it in towards the end. I was happy to find that the RBZ and I were generationg ball speeds of around 172 mph! Which I wasnt upset with. THe R11s was about 10mph off this and was hittign it around the 250-260 mark.
I was fitted for a 15 degree stiff slightly heavier shaft with RBZ tour head. However after some consideration I think the R11 may have been a better fit purely because I didnt see the point in hitting a 3 wood as far as my driver ! Which at points is what was happening. And also the extra adjustibility was what I would prefer.
Driver fitting was pointing at the R11s straight away due to adjustability settings was achieving some good stats on the monitor. And was fitted with a 9 degree R11S stiff shaft with 70 gram (ish) shaft. With a few tweaks in face angle.
Phil then stepped up and was fitted with the R11S Driver and RBZ 3 wood. Which seemed to suit him well. And was hitting some excellent shots with both. And definately gaining distance with each shot.
Once our interviews and Photshoot (was upset I didnt have my own dressing room) were over. We then got to try some clubs from the GM cupboard! An excellenT opportunity to try some stuff I would never normally try. And a definate buy is going to be the new cleveland wedges ! AMAZING. Was great having some closest to the pin on wentworth driving range!
One of the highlights of the day was getting lost in the clubhouse whilst trying to find the toilets and walking into someones office whilst they were in a conference call ! OH DEAR !
Just wanted to say a quick thanks to GM and TM for the great day and thanks to Brendy and Phil for the awesome company!
