Been really busy the last 6 weeks or so with work, pregnant wife etc etc but I still managed to get some golf in.

Anyway, I watched two brothers play (ex club champions) both very low single figures and spotted something that I just didn't do.

On there take away they are a little slower than what I think I am and I was curious with it.

For the last 3 weeks or so I've been doing this and I've found I've not been overswinging at all and the contact has been so much purer and better. The ball flight is superb and very penetrating and without me quoting distances, the increase is pleasing :)

What's great is I'm not trying to smash the ball, I'm just hitting through it and with conviction.

So all in all really pleased with my game and my handicap coming back down in the right way. :)

I've started doing this LTP.

Pro had me slow my back swing down dramatically from what it was. His words to me:

"You don't hit the ball on the back swing. It's about getting the club into the correct position at the top"

I've noticed, especially with my irons, my ball flight is a lot straighter and my swing has a lot more control.

Here's my swing (pre posture changes... Thanks again Bob ) but you get the idea.

I've also been doing this and have found that it helped massively.

I'm not anywhere near your standard mind. I've been playing for nearly 3 months now and have got down to a 23 handicap, so it has certainly helped me.

The only other thing I learnt myself, which has helped even more... is to keep my grip fairly loose.

in which case, why not dispense with teh backswing entirely - just put the club in eth right position and then swing down ...?

Actually David Leadbetter has a great drill for doing exactly that and you would be surprised at how well you strike the ball with out a back swing

My pro had me doing that during my lessons, it's ridiculously hard to do

Slow backswing isn't something I've ever had a problem with. I was actually told to speed mine up last year!

Yes, I think I know what you mean. You could've captured mine on video back in 1939. :D

I've been working on tempo for what seems like forever. Still way too fast at times but just once in a while I slow it to a blur and make a decent contact. Its something I'll go back to over the winter although I've a lesson booked for Septmebr 4th so once I get the swing issues sorted I might go straight to the tempo next.
