Good Afternoon,
I wonder if anyone else has experienced the hell I am currently going through?
Briefly, My daughter is now 19yo and has left home ( her mothers , we are divorced) for University. I contacted the CSA in September and they told me nothing else to pay , all clear, infact I had overpaid and was due a refund. No refund received, so contact them this morning. I was told I have arrears with them of £4500. They say this are from a period when I went to uni 1996-99, and a further period 18mths when I was hospitalised and unfit to work.
Firstly this is the first they have told me of the "arrears2, secondly, they have assesessed the maintenance for my student and unemployed period based on my current income, the say the maintenance was only suspended for this period??
I thought any charge such as this over 6 yrs old was statue barred? The charges are all pre 2003.
I feel sick, they want the money within 12mths, I cant afford that, My wife is unemployed - redundant, I am in a failrly low paid job, no chance of wage increase, I have a clue what to do...any ideas?

No help mate but they're blood sucking bastards.
I've had a few run ins with them over the years. Luckily my kids are old enough now where I don't pay.
You have my sympathies and I hope you sort it out.

citizens advice beauro? failing that you'd have to get some legal advice from a child support specialcist

Dunno how the specialists do it, but when I needed to sit down with a solicitor they gave me 1/2 hour free to get teh background, and make an assessment, and then I could make a decision on where I went next. There was no pressure on getting me to stump up any cash at all.

I wouldnt worry they can only get out of you what you can afford, based on your income now.Ive been in the same boat recently. My advice would be,be open and honest with them and they will try to help you.At the end of the day if you cant afford it,they cant have it,simples!!!

they are just a bunch of c.... They are the most useless incompetent bunch of self rightous bastards that ever crawled over the earth.
they took another £250 off me last month, from a case that closed in january last year, my ex wife has told them and written to them numerous times, but the thick twats do not seem to understand basic english.
when i rang to complain, everyone i spoke to gave a different reason, and even blaming me that i had moved and had not told them my new address, even though the case was closed. last phone call said i would get a refund, and guess what, my ex text me today telling me she had just received a cheque.
the sooner this bastion of injustice is shut the better, and put the plebs back where they belong.
what makes it worse, they only chase people who are employed, because they are easier to get deduction at source orders.
good luck in your cause, i just hope you get justice, and shsft them
