He deffo looks a chucker it has to be said, but apparently he keeps his elbow angle well within the limits and is therefore a legal action.

Something not quite right though is there?

well done ireland for only losing by 9 runs.
MNalinga has an unorthodox action but his arm is straight so there is nothing wrong with it. Muralitharan is a different matter - I think hes a chucker.

I thought in the laws of the game it was something to do with the wrist angle which is why Murali was accused on more than one occasion of chucking and his arm is certainly a lot more upright than Malinga.

Not a huge cricket expert so not entirely sure of the exact ruling but I'd have to say he's action does look suspect

even the wife questioned his bowling action and she's not a great cricket fan!

Something needs to be done about these suspect bowling actions. It should be "proper" bowling at that level. I wouldn't even have got away with that action in my first year at high school!

I dont see anything wrong with malingas action officially. His arm is straight and does not bend at the elbow during his action. It is above the required height (ie angle to the body). Just because he slings it and doesn't bowl with his arm fully extended upwards means nothing in terms of the laws. If a bolwer with a traditional action bends his elbow in the action that's illegal, even if it looks better. Straight arm, legal action

He's not known as 'Malinga the slinga' for nothing !!!

However suspect the action is ...and that also includes Muralitharan...both actions have been minutely tested by the ICC under extremely testing conditions and using the very latest in camera technology ( think swing-vis for golfers but under laboratory conditions ) and both have been cleared . In fact , i think Murali has been tested on numerous occasions .

Here's a clip of Malinga taking 4 wickets in 4 balls in a one dayer against South Africa -

I'm not sure whether that's very impressive bowling, or cheating.

As much as I'm impressed, every slow mo of his bowling, especially after the 3rd and 4th wickets the action is as dodgy as ever.

No-way would I have been allowed to bowl like that in school.

If muralitharan was a chucker (I dont agree) then Malinga certainly is, without doubt.

Yes there are rules to define this but look at Shoaib Akhtar, some in the ICC deemed him a chucker and others not.

If in doubt, put a stop to it.

I think Murli and malinga both throw it. But tests will show there action is within the rules.

They need to change to rules because they throw it and gain an advantage.

If these actions were in my village league i and everyone else would call them for chucking.

But is a chuck classed as being carried out with a bent elbow ?...i'd argue the grey area with Malinga's action is the height at which his arm comes through/over. It must surely give him the ability to swing the ball better as his fingers will almost certainly run along the seam but at a near horizantal angle ?
