Cracking link for a bit of old ground nostalgia.

Great link Dodger

Some great memories there from years gone by when football was great to go and watch.

Im biased but East End Park was a great place to watch football (its now completely soulless and boring), also used to love going to games at Brockville and Broomfield.

How I wish we could go back to those days of standing at football

EEP always had a cracking atmosphere even for 2nd division games v Berwick,I was there when they just missed out on promotion against us the day Bradford happened, not sure of the crowd but reckon maybe 7k there and it was jumping....at least until the reality that they had to play us again the season after kicked in!!;)

Superb Alan, can almost smell the pies and bovril ( and Forfar bridies :p )
I can't bear the thought of sitting at the fitba on a freezing winters day and as far as I'm concerned there was a huge over reaction after Hillsborough, making grounds all seated.
Terracing didn't kill those poor people at Hillsborough...bad stewarding / policing and most of all the fences killed them.
In 1970 my dad and grandpa took me ( 8 yo ) to Hampden to watch Celtic play Leeds in the EC semi final. There were 137,000 people in the ground and I certainly didn't feel unsafe. And I'm sure that if my dad thought it wasn't safe he wouldn't have taken me.

Bring back the terracings as far as I'm concerned as most grounds are soulless places now.
Even my beloved Rugby Park !!

I was there that day and remember all running on the pitch to celebrate our "promotion" only for Jim Leishman to come out and tell everyone that we werent promoted after all as the scoreline in the other match had been announced as being wrong:o. If my memory serves me right I think it was Stirling Albion who ended up promoted and we all had to trudge back off the park and head home totally deflated.

Great days and sadly all in the past.

Montrose and Alloa was it no,sure you drew with Alloa the previous week to kinda end your chances?

Aye,was he not greetin as he broke the news?No mobile phones then!!

Great man him, when he came down to Shielfield he always brought a bit of Pars memorabilia to give to my old man who was Secretary of BRFC at the time as he had strong ties to Dunfermline.....never made me swing towards your lot but it certainly made me think what a fine fella Leishman was.

Have to agree many grounds lack the atmosphere of days gone bye.

The ground that sticks out for me was the small Subbuteo type stand at Airdrie's park.

Those were the days.

I think your right with Montrose and Alloa now you mention it, my memory is blurred by the disappointment of the day:(

Leishman is indeed a great man and has contributed so much to our club over the years, a true Pars legend. Very few guys like him left in todays game.

I hope this safe standing trial is successful and we can get Scottish football grounds someway back to how they used to be as these soulless plastic stadiums are a large part of the decline in Scottish football. Something needs to be done to get the average man back inside the stadiums and supporting his team or I fear for the future of many clubs, and i include Dunfermline in that:(

Coming down south for a minute one of the old stadiums with the biggest character was Wycombe wanderers previous ground, Loakes Park, located in the centre of Wycombe next to the hospital and home to the wanderers from 1895 to 1990.

Great old wooden stand, but the most memorable part was the 11 ft slope running from side to side.

as a 10 year old, was able to crawl under the fence by the hospital and get in free. happy Days

The ground is now the hospital car park , sad but they couldnt have carried that slope into the professional game.

The new ground is nice and well appointed but lacks that soul

Fragger

These new grounds that are springing up are so dull, like they've been picked out of a catalogue. Chesterfield, Shrewsbury and Colchester are almost identical. Used to love going to away games on Tuesday and Friday nights, seeing the big floodlights from miles away lighting up the sky. Proper affordable football and being able to stand on the terraces. Its more like going to the theatre nowadays.

Just watched the clydebank clip brings back sooooo many memories, getting lifted over the turnstiles heading up to the blue shack for a pie and a bovril etc. Pity the Steedmans ripped the heart out of it, now a McDonalds sits on the site of where Davie Cooper played

Was it the Atlantis pub that was next to the ground Chris ?
I was married in Dumfries on Friday, best man and me drove to Clydebank on Saturday to watch Killie win ;) and then drove back to Dumfries after the game.

Great times. ( The fitba not the marriage  )

I 110% agree. Football has driven the working class family man out of fitbaw. Its far too expensive to go to the football now. Add in Sky dicking about with times and dates its a pain in the nether regions.

That's why I follow the mighty Arthurlie now.

Jeez the Atlantis!! I had forgotten about that! Yeah it was just along the road at the traffic lights a couple of hundred yards or so. There also used to be a bit at the back of the pitch near the train tracks where a lot of the kids would go when dad was watching the match and we would all play 30 aside etc!

Great site. I use to go and watch Wimbledon at Plough Lane on altenate Saturdays to Fulham. When I started going away with Fulham there were some real old heaps of grounds in the bottom divisions the fans didn't really care. It was about supporting their club. Managed 82 grounds so far and its a lot of the modern ones I've never got around to doing

Elm Park at Reading is now a housing estate. Went back a few years ago to have a look, and there was a tear in my eye. Stupid I know but it brought back so many memories walking down the side streets on the way to the match, round a corner and suddenly there was the ground, all concrete and corrugated iron. Policeman on huge horses, and old men selling match programmes.

Went to my first match in 1970 as a nipper, and it was and still is one of my most exciting days. Beat Barrow 6-2 in the old 3rd division. Remember Les Chappell, with the Mexican moustache, scoring a hat trick. He was my hero until the next game when he missed a couple of sitters.

The new stadium is fine, and I love taking my daughter to a match there. Nice seats with a perfect view, but the atmosphere in and outside the ground is just not the same.

Impressive number Homer, I'm at 34 and a fair number of those no longer exist.
