I am looking into getting a counterbalance putter as I have missed too many short ones recently (have had a swing with a few in the pro shop and like the stability of the swing), after doing a bit of research I stumbled across the Super Stroke Counter Balance grip (which you can add a counter balance weight screw into). I have a Scotty Cameron Newport 2 Studio Select that I have had for a few years, would it be possible to simply put the couterbalanced superstroke grip on it (with or without the weight screw) and then change the weights on the bottom of the putter for slightly heavier weights?

This would work out at around £75 all in (unless I can find the individual parts below cheaper)

http://www.adoregolfgrips.com/super...-series-counter-core-putter-grip-white-black/ (£26.75)

http://www.adoregolfgrips.com/super...er-core-threaded-back-weight-wrench-50-grams/ (10.95)

http://www.amazon.co.uk/s/ref=nb_sb...=sports&field-keywords=scotty+cameron+weights (£35 - £40)

I played with a guy on Saturday who had the new counterbalanced Newport 2, which looks great but I would grudge shelling out £280 - £300 for a new one when I already have one similar that I could possibly adapt at a fraction of the cost.

Has anyone tried anything simlar with positive results?

So I take it that you have a face balanced putter at the moment and are looking to convert it to counterbalanced ?

If that's more suited to your putting set up and stroke then fine but surely it's going to have its least impact/influence on short putts- which you present as the issue to be resolved?

Edit - the specs suggest the existing putter is already counterbalanced; so you are looking to face balance it?

above is the current putter, that I have, it has a superstroke lite putter grip on it currently, it is face balanced, although I am trying to get a more stable swing with it while putting, having tried other counter balance putters, I was wondering if I could simply convert this one to be counterbalanced as opposed to shelling out for a new putter.

Waste of time and money with no guarantee of success imo!

Go find a Counter-Balance putter you like the feel of and get one of those - through a trusted Ebay seller. If it doesn't work out, then re-sell at little or no loss. If it works out out, great. You could then (more than) recover your costs by selling the Newport at the seriously high prices they go for!

@Duncan. While there may be a counter-balanced Newport 2 style, I expect the OP has a standard Newport 2.

Of course another way is to sort out the reason you are missing the short putts!

Scotty's have good 2nd hand value, have you thought about buying the new one and flogging yours to offset the cost?

just a thought...............

If you want to try a counter balanced putter you could always take a punt on one of these

Hmm food for thought, thanks for all the feedback, our pro sells the wilson counterbalance putters for £70 so am tempted to take a punt on one of them, although the temptation to play about with the scotty is still there as it's such a beautiful putter, I'll let you know how I get on
