Handicap has jumped from 9. something to 11.5 in last month or so unfortunately.

My driver has been pretty atrocious. The big miss is this low hook. Clubface is clearly shutting down at impact, as the ball start lefts and hooks. I played around with tee heights and different feels but nothing really changing the ball flight. I did find a temporary fix where I kinda leaned the handle forward and opened up my stance a touch and the ball would go pretty straight - but it was reliant on my body moving 'together' which is hard to replicate and hasn't lasted, maybe a couple of rounds at most over the season. It has been so destructive to my scoring game that ultimately it's killing rounds. I've lost all confidence with it and it has usually always been a strength of mine but this has kinda crept up on me over the season. It's the same pattern with the irons and has been all year, the difference being now it's crept into my driver game also. I suspect it's a swing/technical issue overall since the pattern is the same but it obviously shows up more in the longer clubs.

I am likely flipping (presumably because the clubface is coming in open). My low point control/compression with irons isn't great and strike varies a bit. I suspect that my pivot/rotation isn't great and that's what ultimately causes these symptoms and this pattern but I could be wrong.

I have of course had coaching and lessons before but in hindsight they were always addressing symptoms and sticking plasters on rather than addressing something which is clearly the root cause/core problem.

I'm going to get booked in somewhere but I am sceptical of plasters and quick fixes even more now than ever before so I'm trying to find someone who will address the root cause of the problem but in the meantime I'm curious if anyone has had/has similar issues or can offer any advice.

Your bad shot sounds a lot like mine. When things are not going well my bad shot especially with the driver and long irons is a low pull hook, and something I’m working through to eradicate.

I can’t speak for you but I can tell you what causes mine so maybe could be worth looking at.

Mine is caused all by issues at address, when I’m setting up the tendency is to much weight towards my toes rather than in the centre of my feet so essentially unbalanced, what happens then is when I’m on my down swing I have to early extend with my hips to get my weight right through impact, but this causes me to pull to hard left and causes my hands to rotate to much effectively closing the club so I get the straight pull hook.

Effectively a swing flaw created purely by not having my posture and set up correct. I’m working hard to change it but it’s taking time. But once I get that set up right the swing flows, no early extension and no hook.

Like I said that’s what causes mine you’d may be similar or could be entirely different. Filming the swing helped me highlight my issues.

Would you agree that your swing path is out to in with the clubface closed to the path?

I'm not sure to be honest. It hasn't been measured in a while. What I do know is that it is fairly netural (within a couple of degrees either side) when I was swinging it well.

Clubface is definitely closed to the path.

It's very hard to change your swing path but relatively easy to change your grip.
I'd suggest you head to the range and experiment with small anti-clockwise changes to your grip
I will try. Even if in the interim it gives me something playable off the tee until I can get seen.

I think my grip is fairly netural but I do have some small hands - so when people talk about seeing a few knuckles I tend to see them all. My trail can get underneath a bit aswell at times but I am concious of that.
