Chris 'Bandit' Evans Banned

he has been playing golf for years. And i would have said that 10 was a fair and tough enough handicap

Sounds harsh and overreaction

If i remember rightly, someone who isnt currently keeping his card came within 1 shot of winning the professional part of the comp - i dont see them banning him.

how can you prove or disprove somebody's handicap?

If he is a member of a UK and Ireland club, then he will be able to provide a handicap certificate from his club under the CONGU UHS. If, as the Dunhill organisers say, he was a member of a club in Portugal, he should have been able to provide a handicap certificate from his club under the EGA system.

Surely if he had an active club handicap he could produce this and quash all arguments as to what he should have been off at the time. The fact that he isn't exactly arguing the toss seems to smack of someone having been caught out.

Not a big fan of this event (and the US equivalent - the Bob Hope) so its no loss either way to me

I saw Chris Evans play at the BMW PGA Pro Am at Wentworth in May and according to the booklet his handicap is listed as 13

Certainly from what I saw, it seemed about right. But as we all know, we have good days and bad days. Vernon Kay's 15 looked generous

This ban concerns me because it is basically calling him out as a cheat, If it were me, I would be hitting the roof.

To ignore it or brush it aside means that you agree with it that cant be right

I hope Chris Evans stands up for himself

Fragger

seems as though McManus and Magnier have got a bit upset that they arent the only ones allowed to play in the Dunhill with completely ridiculous handicaps as they appear to have been doing for years

You think if he could prove them wrong he wouldnt be doing it already?
id say he would have been on the paper with the offical cert & his solicitor would have been on the phone already ..

His reaction to it gives me the impression they are right .. just my opinion of the way i see it tho

Some interesting pairs Paul Lawrie playing with his son.
Paul McGinley with Oscar Pistorious...did not know he golfed.
Howler probably got the best laugh with Bill Murray.
Dan [Mr PotatoE] Quale also playing

His handicap is 10 which is held at a club in Portugal.

Apparently, at last years comp, he knocked it round one of the Scottish courses level par - hence the 'bandit' tag.

He countered by saying that the organisers were being pathetic and likened it to the boy in the playground who takes his ball away because he's not winning.

He loves his golf so I doubt he would deliberately cheat. I can shoot anywhere between the low 80s and the low 100s. One day I am a bandit, one day I am playing poorly. And I suspect it is the same for Chris Evans.

Plus this comes from The Daily Mail. Which is a hateful paper, so I take anything it publishes with a large pinch of salt.

I think it's a bit harsh to be honest, and to get a lifetime ban is ridiculous.

I also don't think Chris Evans has to prove anything to anyone. I hope he does set up a tournament in competition - he's got enough money to do what he wants!

Good luck to him.

No, indeed he doesn't need to prove anything to anyone, however if he wants to be taken as an honest golfer, then he needs to explain why he feels/knows this ban is unjust. His silence on the matter speaks volumes.
