Chelsea and what could have been

Yes thos four mins at the end of a match really do show that Maureen does indeed bring through and develop young players - add him to the list of others like ..... um

My goodness, you really don't know, do you?
Well, if you don't get it, I'm not explaining it!

Not many teams let the youngsters develop now. Not at the tip table at least.

Pep so far at city has got the playing well. But let's not pretend the team were nobodies before he arrived. Pep has always had ready made teams with superstars.

Don't get me wrong he gets em playing beautifully, but unless he stays at a team fir a decade an manages a whole crop of youngsters through, then he's not any different to most imo
Agree with this, how many youngsters did the top 6 last season bring through from their own Youth system? Possibly no more than a handful.

Apart from Wenger, the other 5 managers are relatively new in post.

So if we are judging top managers, shouldn’t this question be aimed at Arsenal, Wengers had more than enough time and I can only think of a few who have come through in all his years.

I think the point of my post has been missed. It wasn't so much about who you have had and who you have sold. Teams like Southampton will always be like that and see good players moving on to the top teams. Same with even the top PL teams that have seen good players move on to other teams.

It is more regarding how top teams do not give players a chance and if they aren't an instant success they just move them on, sometimes at a loss. It may be a young player brought in from overseas, or a young English player who isn't given his chance. I could have mentioned another team, it's just that Salah and De Bruyne come to mind because of how well they are playing and that I think almost any team would give them a starting shirt.

Isn’t that the nature of the beast, it’s not as simple as saying what if they’d of had a chance or stayed longer etc, some players play better in different set ups or respond to different players and managers, De Bruyne could’ve stayed with Chelsea and not be nowhere near the player he is with Man City, Salah could’ve been signed by Man Utd and be struggling to get in the team, the way he’s fitted in to LPool is more down to klopp and the way he sets the team up and the other players around him, he currently looks the buy of the season.

This sort of thing has gone of for years, Lukaku is a good example. Never actually played at a Chelsea, put out on loan to improve and never came back.

There was an article in the Guardian last year about the fact that Chelsea had 38 players out on loan.

I might be wrong but wasn't it Lukaku that tried to be to clever when taking a penalty in a European game for Chelsea and missed.

Always thought that was part of the reason he didn't last long after that.

He was also only 18 and was up against Torres, Drogba and Sturridge in his first season at Chelsea, as BiM said Lukaku thought he should be the automatic No 9 and when not picked asked to go out on loan.
