This really winds me up and I would just like to know if anyone has experienced similar. There was a charity golf day at my club in remembrance of a very popular member who tragically died this year. It generated massive support and was avaliable to non members as well. Anyway, I only just checked the results as I got back from holiday this morning and it was won by 4 young non members all with 28 unofficial handicaps. I just checked their scorecards online and on our par 70 course the best shot 77 and the worst shot 84!!!. All that to win a trophy and at the presentation they were swanning around like they belonged in 'the only way is essex' with their 17 year old dolly birds in little mini dresses. Why on a blatant display of cheating were they not DQ'd?. Rant Over

Common enough , the prob been, even tho it for charity if you let this go on proper golfers will not support it the following year , seen it loads of times , numbers are way down the second year & no event the year after, people dont mind not winning but they wana fair crack at it , normaly over here now there is a non GUI (official h'cap) prize aswell , you cant win 1st or 2nd main prize if you all havent official h'caps so they have diff prizes for them

Your committee is so way out of line in allowing players with unofficial handicaps to be eligible to win the trophy - how naive is that.

Committee dropped the ball there. If the prize was open to non-members then it should only be those with an official handicap to help rule out a lot of bandits.

I rarely play in them nowadays for that very reason. I'll give to charity when the box comes round, and raffle tickets but I ain't wasting most of a day just to applaud guys who in all reality know they're cheating.

+ its up to the committee to protect its members and run a fair competition.

I experienced the exact same thing a few weeks ago. The group of chavs sat on a table near us were talking loudly throughout the comedian that was on and all the speeches etc then when the winners were announced swanned up to pick up their prizes and left straight away (whilst sneering and brandishing their prizes at the people who were trying to shut them up earlier). I forgot to mention that they were the only people there who didn't even shower and change prior to the meal / prizegiving, they were still in the gear they played in. All their "handicaps" were in the 20's and their score was an absolute joke. They have been asked (told) not to enter next year as there is no shortage of legitimate golfers wanting to play in this particular event.
