As you know I arranged a charity day that took place at The Hertfordshire Golf Club last friday. The weather was lovely, the course was in great shape and we raised a lot of money.

Everyone met at 11am for bacon rolls and coffee and so the banter started, with some dodgy outfits being sported by a few golfers. I of course was a picture in all white.

And so it was upto me to start the days golf with the first drive of the day. Skied slightly but 180yds down the middle of the fairway I wasn't too dis-pleased. I carded a 94, 36pts playing off 24. My club handicap is still 27 so i was pleased with my days golf.

Was great to have a few other forumers at the day. Big thanks to HTL and Viscount for making the trip, not sure how you enjoyed the company in your respective fourballs but i'm sure you enjoyed the course and weather regardless. I'll hopefully have some pictures to put on here soon so once I have i'll let you know.

So to the business end, we raised £746 in total on the golf day. Plus we had the raffle running on friday and saturday at the ball for the GoKart trolley. In total we sold exactly £600's worth of raffle tickets solely for the GoKart draw. I didn't know the fella who won the trolley, he and his wife attended the ball as a close friend had just been diagnosed with Alzhiemers. He told me he plays twice a month and his trolley sometimes doesnt last 18 holes anymore so i'm sure its gone to a good home.

In total between the Golf Day on Friday and the Ball on Saturday we raised just over £3000.

Big thanks to:

GoKart
Titleist
TaylorMade
Callaway
Top Golf
Crown Golf

Thanks

You've just made our Monday morning very happy. Even before coffee.
It's fine having stuff to raffle and so on, but what really makes it happen is the effort and energy of the people organising it. Good on you!

Right Sandy. Put down that coffee, get those high heels off and your golf shoes on and get out there and play.
You are the boss arent you? :D

Thank you so much for the trolley Sandy, £600 for one prize is great going and went along way to helping us raise the amount we did.

minty,
it was a great day in good company, shame some of the golf didn't live up to it, though Mike's longest drive certainly did (measured at 308 by SG2.5).
but what can we say about a nearest the pin hole (150 over water) that was still virgin both before and after the fifth group went through!
the course was in fine condition. the greens fast (even at this time of year, what they'll be like in summer I dread to think). I think at least one of my group lipped on every hole.
the raffle on the day brought me a Benross Lob Wedge and I have HTL's prize to give to him at Ascot.

well done for a great day, and I look forward to next year

I've got to say 300+yds is some drive and from what i see it was middle of the fairway aswell. I thought sam in my group had won it as he hit about 250yds middle of the fairway but being the first group out I knew someone would get close.

As for the par 3 15th you speak of, all four of us put our tee shots in the drink and we witnessed the group behind do the same... I ended up with a 5 scoring the only point for our team on that hole.

That long drive was mighty impressive; I had a go and tried to nail it, ended up hooking it about 200 yrds.

That par 3 closest to pin was evil! I still reckon it’s a PW!!!

Great day, shame I couldn’t stay for the night out after.

HTL would you like to tell the forum your PW story on that hole?

I dont think PW is far off being the right club as I was hitting a gentle 9iron, somehow pulled it massively left though, which is my bad shot at the moment.

Another forumer and my brother in-law also played in the charity day (slaznick), If you think Medwayjon was bad with his pink t-shirts wait till you see slaznick in pink trousers, shirt and cardigan. HTL how you managed to play 18 holes with that in sight I dont know.

I've already got approx 50 more people wanting to play in the next one.

Congratulations to all concerned on what sounds like a terrific day, with a goodly amount raised for charity.
150 yard par 3 over water a pitching wedge?
You're having a laugh aren't you?

I will give it a go. It was a nice looking, tricky par 3, only 130ish yards over water and downhill to a green surrounded by trees. So as you do I pulled out my PW and proceeded to dunk 3 balls one after another into the drink to be 7 off the tee! Much to the amusement of my playing group and the group behind.

So does dumping 3 shots into the water with a pitching wedge not give you the slightest hint that it's not a pitching wedge shot?

That is exactly the conversation I had with my playing group with much more foul language and banter.

My grooves were not clean, and I had poor contact, and im sure it was not 150yrds, IT WAS A PW! Im going to have to go back and get this monkey of my back and smash a PW onto that bloody green. GGGGRRRRR!!!!

Sandy, no date yet but i'm seriously considering making it a twice a year event due to the intrest.... my problem with that is if it's too regular people may not be so generous.

HTL, i wish i was in your group to see that. I have to admit, it looked a lot shorter than the card suggested... A fella in my group hit a wedge and had the distance but not the accuracy.

The last few holes can be serious card wreckers. Although I shot 44 on the back nine but felt like i played worse than the front 9, explain that :D

Must have been like that bit in Tincup at the end where he is desperate to carry the pond, and goes through his entire stock of balls.

Surely if you have to absolutely middle the PW with your sunday best strike, then it is really a solid 9?
