Guys,

Just had a late call-off for our 4-ball tomorrow at Cawder so there's a space going if anyone fancies it? We're all ***** though, so don't want to drag anyone down to our limited ability level. Can pick up in certain parts of Edinburgh/West Lothian for a small donation towards petrol... the round itself is a freebie.

2pm tee-off... currently waiting on a guy getting back to me as 1st reserve, but going to throw it open in case someone can fill in as I doubt he'll make it.

Apply within.

short notice for anyone here I would have thought. But if your needing a 4 ball call the pro shop before you leave and ask them about any singles going out near your time if they want to join in a 4 ball.

Had a cracking afternoon at Cawder, only played a 3-ball as couldn't get an extra body but its maybe just as well as we got stuck behind the slowest OAP 4-ball ever and the old carrots wouldn't let us through.

The course was very wet, as was expected, and so got little run on the ball. Greens were quite bobbly also, with more than a few unrepaired pitchmarks. Course layout itself is excellent, with a lot of really nice holes. Got absolutely drenched going down the 10th thanks to a heavy 10-min shower, and I'd forgotten my brolly. :(

In the main I again felt I played ok despite some poor scoring, although my short-game/putting continues to be atrocious with too many thinned approaches that scuttle through the green allied with a tendency to pull putts left and long of the hole. :nono:

Driving was in the main ok, pushed every one out to the right though and was fortunate that several of Cawder's fairways are pretty generous, so I was often in the fairway/first cut. Rescue clubs were good though, hit every one well, straight and airborne with decent carries. Perfect birdie on the par-5 7th - drive out right, just in the fairway, 3-hybrid down into the centre of the fairway to about 130yards and then nicked a 9-iron to 10 feet and drained the putt. Shame it was sandwiched either side by a pair of 6s, including a 3-putt and a visit to a bunker. Out in 51.

Wasn't as good on the back nine, again going right off every tee but my rescue clubs and mid-irons were keeping me in it, at least until I got onto the greens. Racked up a card-wrecking 12 on the 14th though, finding water off the tee twice.. one a violent slice right, and the other from the now-customary push that i thought had carried until I heard the thunk of ball-against-tree and then a second slash. Played 5 off the tee with a hybrid instead of the driver to find the fairway - what i should have done in the fist place - and then hacked my way up to the hole and a 3-putt. :nono: Back in 56 for 107 gross. Not great.

I've now completed 3 rounds, 2 at Peebles and 1 at Cawder.. based on my scoring, GolfShake calculates my handicap at 25.7, which for having played just 3 rounds after a 15-year absence isn't too shabby I reckon.

Plenty of room for improvement, but getting happier with my game every time I play.
