It is one of the new ones and early tests on the carpet look promising, nice soft insert, sharp grooves and superb to look at.

Smiffy dont worry it was taken with the largest pinch of salt. To be honest, the reason I buy from, sorry bought from AG was the customer seervice. Most of the time they are dearer than else where, but they always tell me they will price match. I could easily get stuff the same price as AG else where but being a bigger company, i feel safer dealing with them, and the service I have had in the past was second to non.

One of the sales reps is a young lad who plays of about 6, he is a really avid golfer, knows his stuff and never tries to push me into any sales. Infact, he talked me out of a few things in the past and I really respect him for it. The other lads are mostly the same so out of loyalty, I tend to go back time and again.

Unfortuantly I couldn't deal with said lad today as his manager had to deal with situation, but after going out of there way to finally deliver the deal, AG is hanging on by the skin of its teeth.

I still feel abit miffed that they lied about being out of stock but know it was more than likely area manager instructions.

Probably use Online golf now as there points system is worth it.

Just in case this thread is still alive.

I went to AG and there were actually some good deals!

The R5XL driver that I mentioned is in fact £79.99 so good on you AG...no grumpy email necessary.

I saw a few wedges and picked up one of these for £25.

I have V-foil irons so it sort of fits in but the sole design might either work a treat or be a disaster....anyway temporary solution. I don't use my SW other than out of bunkers and greenside rough and apparently (according to everything I've read) this sort of wedge is good at that but bad for anything else.....which is fine by me.

I think people have had an unrealistic expectation as to the reductions being offered by many of the big traders at the moment.

In order to be competitive many traders are already discounting their stock just to keep the business ticking over. Further massive discounts on current models are therefore not likely to be given.

Older stock , well that's a different thing altogether, they need to shift it before we, the fickle golfing customer, decide we want new current shiny sticks not old stuff !

What ever happens to golf stock. Where do all the unsold 2008 Burner drivers go now the 09 models are out. What happens to unsold sets of irons once the latest upgrades come in. Do the retailers return them to the manufacturers and get some sort of credit agreement. What do the manufacturers do with all their gear. Surely there can't be a giant warehouse somewhere with thousands of old model drivers and irons.

They squeeze through a worm-hole in the space/time continum and end up on a small planet where all unwanted things disappear to. here they live out their lives in peace, casually chatting to all the ballpoint pens you've "lost" down the years...........

Seriously, I reckon the manufacturers melt down redundant stock to re-use the materials. Could the shafts be pulled and used with a new head? Lets face it the Dynamic Gold Shaft has been around forever - could easily get reused. Couldn't it?

It wouldnt surprise me if there is some underworld industry getting all the unused stock, swapping heads or sticking new labels on and putting them back out there.

I suspect that they just keep getting cheaper and cheaper until they are all gone, hence you can buy last year's Nike driver for about thrupence hapenny now and why there is always something on sale in places like Direct Golf.

I agree with the just getting cheaper theory, then again the space/time continuum is a realistic go-er as well.

Certainly back in the 1990s, Big Bertha woods always sold out eventually and the last few (you know 7.5 degrees, ladies flex) went for nothing.

I want to know where AG got all those R5Xls.....there's a great example......someone seriously over-ordered on those babies!!!

Having thought about it....I do know the real answer.

Pros and Golf shop owners take them home and tell their wives it's old and dirty stock. The get washed and go the way of socks and boxer shorts.....down the waste pipe of Britain's washing machines....
