As a Hammer I think it's a good move. We've just bought Jarvis to supply the ammunition and Carroll will hopefully thrive on that. If he doesn't settle we've not paid a lot for his services so it's really a win-win scenario. But for Liverpool I'm a bit concerned. They clearly need to bring in someone today but I can't see Sturridge leaving Chelsea unless they sign Hulk and I don't think Dempsey is the answer. Just seems crazy that they spent £55m on Downing and Carroll and they've shipped off the Geordie and are converting Downing into a left back. From what I've seen of Borini and Suarez so far this season I do worry where their goals will come from...
 
Had exactly the same conversation with an LFC supporting friend. They look like they are really going to struggle getting goals which was one of the main problems last year.

To me, Suarez is a brilliant footballer but not so much a great finisher.....

They'll be good with the ball but not sure that will make up for it in the fans view?

Edit: agree that West Ham have done well to get Carroll. Allardyce is used to setting teams up to play to his strengths

Actually,just googled it and no wonder I have not heard of him,he's an 18 year old! One for the future maybe though.

There must be some cash swimming around that place if they can afford the loss that they look like making on Carroll plus Adam has gone at a 4m loss has he not?

With trading like this they cannot be in a healthy state surely......anyone know what their situation is??

Good signing for the Hammers but will they sign him if he does the business for them??
 
Yeah forgot about Charlie Adam. My word Liverpool have done well in the transfer market under Commoli and Dalglish!!!!! There are rumours abounding that if West Ham get the Olympic Stadium Westfield are looking to make a sizeable investment.

I think Sturridge could go.

Top and bottom of it is he's a bench/squad player as it stands at Chelsea and at his age and international ambition, I'm sure he wants to be playing more regular than he is.

As for Carroll. I think the type of player he is, big, strong, powerful centre forward are becoming a bit of a dying breed in todays game. Not because of ability, but how the game has changed. Teams no longer play kick and run football (.... Well, Stoke do) the emphasis is now on passing and posession.

How often do you see balls lumped into the penalty area from the half way line (Stoke accepted) to a big man number 9. You don't. There are still teams out there, like Stoke, West Ham, Norwich (Newcastle to a point) etc who still play what I call "Kick and run" football, and play it pretty well to be fair so Carroll will work in a squad like that.

Carroll won't fit into a footballing team (Liverpool, Tottenham, Arsenal, MU, Chelsea, Swansea etc) as their emphasis is on passing there way into the box and most players are technically sound with the ball. Teams like this don't need an old fashoned centre forward, they want pace and technical ability. Take Barca', they play most matches without a striker, the midfield press on.

If Carroll can find a team that fit his style of play (Kick and run) he'll fit in great and will score goals. I, personally don't think he's suited to a footballing team as he isn't, technically, good enough.

He has his old gaffer (Big Sam) and fomer skipper in Nolan at the club, so he'll at least have a few faces he recognises which should make settling in a bit easier.

He'd so well at Stoke mind you and I "Think" he'll do well at West Ham...... Good signing Sam!

This is a bit of a misperception. We played some good football last year but mainly when we were a couple of goals up and teams were chasing the game. I don't mind playing the percentages if it wins us matches and keeps us up. Sam's got an unfair reputation. I remember when he was at Bolton his teams were hard to break down but they also played some scintillating stuff with Jay Jay Okocha and Djorkaeff. That said the big number nines are a dying breed but Jarvis was top of the OPTA stats for crosses last season so with him and Carroll in the team and Nolan feeding off the scraps I think we'll do really well this season <inserthappyhammersmiley>
 
Can I be the first to congratulate west ham on a fantastic move taking Caroll off our hands. (even on a loan, you paid too much!!)

Andy Carroll in a team that gets down the flanks & swings in crosses will be a good player ,IMO he was a panic buy at liverpool when Torres left , liverpool do not play that way they are a passing team & are far suited to smaller quicker ball player like suarez (ok he not firing at the min but you can see his quality).. i think he will do well at WH , another big advantage is he will hold the ball up when the defence is under pressure & need to get a break .. he is a hard man to mark when he does decide to play

You forgot to add the words "couldnt score in a brothel" to your fairly accurate description of Suarez

I dont know the stats but I wouldnt be surprised if Carroll actually has a higher goals to shots ratio than Suarez

Definition of 'profligate': recklessly wasteful... I think that's fairly accurate ;o)

Liverpool fans wax lyrical about Suarez but besides being an unsavoury character he is also misses so many gilt edged opportunities. However if they pull the Sturridge transfer off I think LFC will be ok this year

would ya rather a guy that creates 5 chances & scores 5 or a guy that creates 20 & scores 15 tho Stephen ? I think suarez is a threat in every game the just need the right guy along side him...

He is a striker Bill and his job is to score goals, he wastes so many chances its quite laughable and yet the Liverpool fans think hes the greatest thing since sliced bread....

If Carroll had half as many chances as him he would have scored twice as many goals as him.
