Any advice on car tyres welcomed

I have Continental Sport Contact 225/50/17 and need a few replacing shortly. These are about £160 a pop and while I don't want bargain basement jobs I just wondered if there was a mid-priced alternative that offere a little more value? I have seen Falken but don't know too much about them.

Cheers in advance

Just replaced Sport Contact 2's on my 3 series mate. Rubbish tyre IMO, only got 9k miles from them which is rubbish.
Mine are 225/45/17 and I went for Michelin Supremacy HP at £120 each fitted and balanced. Great tyre, great handling and low road noise.
Falken are ok, mid range. For me though best mid range you can get for the money are Avon ZZ3 or Khumo Ecsta HP.

Cheaper than £160.

I would suggest these as a mid range alternative, just booted my Clio197 with these. Impressed with them for a the price I paid.

Camskill are the best priced retailer about. If you can get tires cheaper anywhere I suggest you buy them there and then!

Hankook ventus and Hankook Rainsport are two very capable tyres. Its very hard to justify the cost of conti's etc when makers are rolling these out for a lot less per corner. Michelins are a little noisey to me as they are mostly banded grips rather than directional waterclearing types like the Hankooks.

Cheers Lump - those Hankooks look just the ticket and a good saving on the Conti's. I must say, I do seem to get through them so little surprise that they are a soft tyre.

Greig - thanks for the tips - I like the look of the Kumho, but would you choose the Hankooks for similar money?

I bung Dunlops on my hearse. They are cheap for big boots. I get them fitted by Event Mobile, who can do it in the car park out side my work place. Very convenient.

18" rims are the starting point for hearses. Many are kitted out with 22's.

Mid range on mine are Champiro...I think, pretty good, they go round in a circular motion, should tyres do anything further?;)

GT Champiro are good tyres Dodger. In line with Khumo and Avon in my opinion.
SHW, if I had the choice between Khumo and Hankook at the same, or roughly the same, price then it would be Hankook every time. Great tyres for the money.
Got a project car that I built a few years ago and it's got 19" rims fitted with Toyo R888 295/30/19 monsters, now those are good :D

Handy thread this one. I'm just about to replace all 4 on my 3series which is fitted with runflats. They are coming off, harsh ride, noisy and seriously expensive. Over a grand to replace all 4!!

Used Kumho's in the past, they have generally been decent but might need to check out these Hankook thingies

WTF was it. Them huge tires and ultra low profile!! :)

Thinking about it, it has to be something german. They fit them onto M3's nowadays

Ha, yeah thems big boots. It's a Mk4 Astra that's been converted to a 3.0 V6 and has the arches extended and rolled to allow for the wide rims. It's mainly used at the track as the R888's have very little tread.

I had Hankook Evo V12's when I bought new wheels for my Leon about 2.5 years ago. They were just under £90 each for 225/40/ZR18.

I know nothing about tyres but they were miles better than the ones they replaced, and I've only just had to replace the front ones, which is about 30,000 miles, albeit not pushing them much.

The ones I've replaced with are Falken FK452 (?) and they feel like they have more grip than the Hankook's, but I've no idea on how quick they'll wear yet. MPG seems a little worse. They were just over £100 each.
