Car parking charges.

Unfortunately they park there and then go off elsewhere. I understand your original sentiment but sadly there are people who always take it to extremes. My wife used to work on the management side at The Metro Centre up here. Whilst the shops did not open until 10am the car parks would open at 8am. People would park their cars, for free, and then get the train into Newcastle. This clogged up their car parks all day. They then kept the car parks closed until 9.30 to stop this happening. The amount of abuse they got from people was ridiculous, they could not see the problem they were causing, nor the cheek of getting free car parking when they were not contributing.

My town has a disc system which means we can park there for 4 hours, plenty enough and keeps the spaces rotating which is essential. The nearest big city is Newcastle where charges are high, best place to park is St James Park stadium incidentally where they are not so bad. If we want to go shopping we will go to The Metro Centre, where it is free. Newcastle shops must get hit hard by the Metro Centre but the pain is inflicted by the council who make the city very unfriendly for drivers whilst the alternatives are not so brilliant.
 
Pay & Display kerbside parking was relatively cheap but they changed it recently to £1 per 15 minutes and no longer free on Sundays. You suddenly find there are a lot more spaces available now. It was obvious people were parking and leaving them all day because it didn't cost them anything. Now it's relatively easy to get a space.
There are a lot of people who will abuse the privilege and sod everybody else.
Most supermarkets now have cameras with free parking up to 2 hours. Anything longer than that and expect a charge. I know that they have to do this close to any sports grounds as people would use them otherwise for parking their cars to watch the match.
 
I have lived here for over 30 years and have stopped visiting many places for days out simply because the parking charges.
 
A lot of the parking charges come down from the council who are using those fees and shop rents to try and boost council funds for various projects and repairs etc because of the reduction of government funding to local councils etc. That’s why they are also bringing machines in etc to reduce wages etc.

But most main places have very good park and ride places and there is always public transport to use to cut the costs down
 
Prefer to use public transport where possible. Pretty good services locally and saves the hassle. Of course at this time of year with a lot of shopping the convenience of having a car is obvious but convenience usually comes at a price

We park over by the Asda home store and walk to the shopping centre if we are ever in Maidstone

Last time I went into Nottingham I went on the tram from Hucknall. That is my Deffo my future mode of transport into Notts. Did look at parking in one of the Manchester tram parks, but didn't have a clue where i was coming into Manchester from the south.
 
Crank em up higher and fund park and ride schemes with them.

I hate city centre parking and love park and rides, always use them if I can.
 
Fortunately, the only thing in Aylesbury that requires me to go into the centre is the bank.
Theres a small street about 5 minutes walk from the centre and you can park free for an hour
5 minutes in, 5 minutes in the bank, 5 minutes back, once a month
Everywhere else has car parks and theyr usually free for a couple of hours but I doubt you'd find me there for more than one..
