After starting this season at 17.9 i set myself a target of getting down to 13 (was a fair bit optimistic) but started off well with a cut to around 16, ive been slowly coming down but got stuck at 14 for what seem liked months thanks to my dreaded slice off the tee, thanks to a few lessons i have now made it to 11.8 with a 40 points in the stableford on sunday :) Also won two board comps this year (my first ever) which also is a nice little achievement as my name will be up in the club permanently.

Just wondering how everyone else has got on? Also i really want to push to single figures next year and my biggest weakness is wedges i just cant figure out what degrees to buy :( CUrrently have 45, 50 GW and 60 LW, what seperation between wedges is the best to have?

Craig, quite a few very recent threads covers all this, worth searching. Well done on your cuts and wins

well done mate,thats good progress!!!

i started the season at 9 with the intention of coming down to 4(first season back) and went the wrong way:((9.5)

i then went from 9.2 to 5.8 in the space of 3 months as i finally got my arse in gear.i got cut in the last comp of the year 0.8 which was my best round of the year... +3 69.it could of been much better as i was -3 through 9,with a putt to go -4 on 10 before falling apart and finishing 3 over.

hopefully next season.

Sorry darthvega only noticed my forum is set to show posts in the last day so didnt notice the other forum posts!
Nice job wull ive heard it gets really tough once you get low but im looking forward to the challenge, just need to sort out incosistency and stupid shots

Is it your wedges that are the problem is the bloke on the end of them? Getting new ones will not necessarily help you achieve anything more.

Well done on the year though.

Very true BT but i really struggle with the distance gaps, i mostly use my PW and GW and have 3 or 4 distances with those clubs but i really struggle with gap between GW and LW, people keep saying to me that 10 degrees is too big a gap for wedges and i need to fill it, truth be told i have no idea lol

i find the best combination for wedges is 48*,56* and 60*.it depends on hwat distance you hit them but i find what i tend to do is use the 56* for shots from 100 and under,i can hit it further but i find a full shot with the wedge doesn;t help me that much.i like to use the 48* fro knock down shots, easy 3/4 swings in and around 110-115 and it works really well.i can step it up when i need to and hit it to about 130 but i find the full sot with the 48* doesn't pay off that much.

i don't get on that well with the 52*(gap wedge)....i bought one but don't really need it tbh.

what you need to concentrate on is the short game, this is where you can make up all the scores, its the difference of say 6 shots a round or even more.

Personally I like an even distribution in my wedges so have a 46 degree PW and a 52 and 58 in the bag as well. It can't be doing you too much harm if you have come down so much and won as many things as you have

My advice would be get a club that is ideal for 100 yards and work up and down from that, as most courses have 100 yard markers, and when I see my ball is near it, I know it is my 56 degree wedge, give or take a few yards. It is my straightest club and my eyes light up, can't beat a bit of confidence. Ok, if GPS says it is only 95 or 105 exactly to the pin, you can make very small adjustments.

I sacrificed a 4 iron to go with 2 rescue woods to cover distances of 180-220, so I could have a PW(approx 130 yds), AW(120 yds) 56 deg (100) and Lob wedge (approx 70).
