Can one be a Cat 1 player without being able to bounce a ball on a wedge?

In my teens I got to just outside cat1 and could bounce 24 times on an open sandwedge, when I made cat1 I didn't feel accepted by the other cat1 players until I could do 35 finishing with the ball plopping into my trouser pocket, PLUS doing 21 with a 4 iron. A few pro lessons in ball bouncing and I'm now regarded as an exceptional Player even though I shoot 80+ most weeks

It does tickle me the amount of low hc players who feel the constant need to do the wedge bouncing thing.... Is it the new mating dance to encourage on course fornications

Haven't done them for a while ,but the old magic is still there:). Just did 200 before my shoulder felt like it was going to seize.:( Shame I can still bounce a ball on a wedge but I can't chip to save my life.

I can comfortably bounce the ball more than 20 times, but I am not a cat 1 player! where am I going wrong! oh, yeah, too much bouncing and not enough short game practice, damn you ball bouncing!!

i'm not a cat 21 play and managed to do 20ish keepy uppys yesterday... even got the whole throw a ball in the air and hit it into the water after a dodgy hole... bad ball!

Bouncing a ball on a wedge is like keepy uppies in football, takes ages to learn how to keep the ball up more than once but ultimately doesn't make you a good player :)

At least in football has some relevance as it helps with control and touch. In golf it just saves you bending down to pick up practice balls.:)

No you cannot. Guy at my club was given a full 1.2 shot handicap increase by the committee for failing the wedge bouncing test. It sounds harsh but let's face it, he wouldve been out of his depth hanging with the other cat 1's and not being able to do it...
