My wife made a good point regarding Passat Estates; basically what type of person is going to rent a Passat Estate and then absolutely thrash it? Not really the sort of person who would rent one.

That's a pretty daft idea.
I rent cars now and again (I don't pay for them) and I'd red-line it all the way from London to Prague if I was in a hurry.
:D

Bull, red line a passat and you'll be doing around 130 MPH and at that speed you'd crap yourself. Tell me if you've aver seen a passat driver thrash the car. 150,000 motorway miles on one of them is only half it can do. Moon and back.

I'm not talking about red-lining in 5th on the Autobahn....I'm talking about generally between the gears.
And b.t.w. I have been 120+ mph.....It's called Germany.
I never said a Passat can't do 300k, I said that hire cars do get abused.

I was supporting your comments, and you come back and belittle my response. Cheers.

Sorry about that, don’t take me too serious. You did say red line, and that is extreme. Most drivers, me included, cant handle speed for any length of time and a passat is not easy to thrash.

Thanks. :)

I actually had to pop up the road (in a hurry) and if my diesel is anything to go by, thrashing is pointless. It gets to about 3500 and then going on is pointless

They're odd cars like that (diesels) a petrol is much more satisfying.

Going to test drive a car on Saturday. Passat Estate. I drove past the garage this morning and took a note of the reg number and did a wee bit digging. All i could find out was that it's been serviced at least once at an arnold clark motor store. they couldn't tell me if they sold it or not???

anyway, reg no. is AD57 NTL if anyone knows any way to get a service/repair history???

Sent a PM with car info.
