Looking like the 1st choice for our Honeymoon stay at the end of October as it fits all the requirements in that it's an hour from the venue,it's on the way home,it's got leisure facilities and loads of eating options or at least it looks that way!!:smirk:

Has anyone got any good or indeed bad stories of staying here and tips on which places to eat etc? The Martin Wishart and Grill restaurants look devine!

I did however discover this place and fancied it but sadly the spa facilities won't be up and running until Spring 2014 at the earliest.

Another time maybe..;)

Dodger, cannot comment from personal experience however in a previous role we (employees) had extremely close links with the De Vere chain. The option of Cameron House was circulated for £30 per night, per room as a limited offer. I missed out but the 'winners' of the ballot went and didn't stop talking about the place for months, desperate for the offer to come around again.

I've been desperate to go ever since but with a 10 month old now in tow, fear my weekend away 'swagger' holds no further powers!

If you do decide to go, absolutely, definitely, make sure you mention you're on your honeymoon as I would hope you'd be upgraded.

Having said all that the Scottish guys on here maybe able to tip you the wink on some unknown diamonds elsewhere.

I think you've made a good choice Dodger, although I haven't stayed there it has a great reputation.
When I had my Timeshare a few years ago, tried to get in there for a week, but it's such a sought after resort to get into they could only offer me a week in January! As much as I like Scotland it wouldn't be my favourite time of year to holiday in.

I take it you've heard the story about Paul Gascoine when he lived there when playing for Rangers?

Typical Gazza feeling bored, walked into the posh dining room in his shorts and trainers with a snooker cue in hand and shouted out, "Anybody fancy a game of snooker?"

He didn't get any replies!

Looks rather OTT, though that might be reasonable for a Honeymoon.

Seems a more appropriate place for the 'Fine Dining' experience than the Leith venue was just before - and on its way to - its Michelin Star. Food was rather good, but a bit 'fiddly' for the environment. I believe it's all in balance now though. For you pocket's sake, stay away from the 'Fine Wines' too!

I'm fortunate enough to have a time share in one of the lodges there, last week in September.
The place is awesome but is a little on the pricey side. Popped in last month & we had two teas & two coffees in the bar by the pro-shop of their golf course, by the marina, £14!
There's a nine holer called The Wee Demon. Play that to your handicap & you've played really well.
I've not stayed in the hotel, obviously, but it is magnificent. Great snooker tables & great swimming pool too!

Slime.

P.S. Am I allowed to sell the time share on here?.
If not, please delete this straight away.

Interesting,do you have personal experience to justify your OTT opinion or are you just throwing that in for the sake of it?

The daughter of a guy I golf with worked there during the Gazza era and said he would appear sometimes with just a bathrobe on looking for food/drink/company. She said he was madder than a box of frogs but was great with the staff and looked after them well financially.

Stayed there for a couple of nights about 5 years ago when we were buying a Caravan just up the road in Inverbeg. Very pricey but it was a fantastic couple of days, and the view from the car park is about as good a view as you'll get anywhere in the world. We didn't eat in the main restaurant but in the "boathouse" (IIRC). Quite a bit less formal and the food was fantastic.

Would recommend a trip to the Rowardennan on the East of the Loch. And a trip to The Drovers is worth while. The Falls of Falloch is a nice trip also.

80% of my post was about what you asked for 'tips on...' - Martin Wisharts..

OTT comment was from pics of rooms on CH website

Thanks for the appreciation.

Cameron House is really nice. We spent the night there in Feb for a wee aniversary night. Lesuire facilities are good and the breakfast is top drawer.

We ate at the Claret Jug, which is attached to the Carrick Golf club. Food was magic, but obviously not cheap. A Car from Cameron House dropped us off and picked us up afterwards.

The Mrs will love it

Took my dad there a couple of years ago for a significant birthday

Utterly fantastic from start to finish - wouldn't hesitate to go back for another special occasion
You can't go wrong with any of the eatery options - all very very good

They didn't quite have our rooms ready when we arrived ( but we were a little early) but to "make up" for it they comp'd all of our wine at dinner incredibly (6 adults)
Their customer service really is second to none

We also got a great deal on the Carrick as it was a special event, but am guessing you won't be needing that!

Congratulations Dodger - enjoy!

Great to hear!!

Needing that?? Allowed that is nearer the truth!!!;)

Haven't stayed but it looks superb. In fact, we've been looking for somewhere for a couple of nights away next month and this has just shot right up the list of contenders.

Hopefully I'll be allowed to sneak off for 18 holes!

Dodger let me know the dates you want as I have a friend who has a couple of lodges attached to Cameron house. She recommends the boathouse at the marina, said hotel was expensive but really good
.PM me your details and I'll ask . No expense spared its your honeymoon, you only do it once.:rofl:
