Calling all Whisky drinkers

Re: Calling all Scots - Whisky query

Singleton of dufftown is very nice, along with a glengoyne 17 yr.. if you want to be very surprised though, try some of the japanese stuff.. The suntory hibiki (along with others) is an exceptional drink.. quite possibly the best malt under £40 you will find....

Re: Calling all Scots - Whisky query

Try some Cragganmore...you won't regret it!

Totally agree, i have tied a few but this is always a regular in my collection - love the stuff !

Re: Calling all Scots - Whisky query

Macallan is nice, very smooth.

Tallisker is nice aswell and i also quite like Auchentoshan just now.

To throw a wilcard in, have you tried Glayva? Whisky licquer and the smoothest drink i've ever had, the bottle never lasts long!!

Neither do your teeth drinking that!

Fair point!!

My mrs has stopped buying me Glayva as it just disappears, so easy to drink!

Re: Calling all Scots - Whisky query

Never did like malts that much, though yonder back I spent many a happy minute trying to work through a shelf lined with over 100 varieties - best I recall was Old Smoky

now Jamieson's and Drambuie

Re: Calling all Scots - Whisky query

Ahh, my kind of thread :)
Have to say I've always had a fondness for the islands - Islay whisky in particular - Port Ellen, Laphroig, Lagavullin and Bowmore particularly.
Talisker, highland park and scapa are right up there too
If you're looking for something smoother i'd recommend the Auchentoshan or Glenkinchie (both are triple distilled)
Mind you, there are literally hundreds of single malts, with unique flavours, so it all depends on your palate or mood.
my whisky collection is a little depleted at the mo, at around 25 bottles :D

mind you, off to Islay in June for a week, so i'll stock up then

it's the Laphroig styles I dont like. A friend once described it as chewing bark with soggy moss :D

I'm nt the biggest Islay Malts fan however Bruichladdich is very palatable. Very nice.

Just come back from my dads, and reinforced my rejection of Islay whisky's as he had a bottle of 16YO Lagavullin. I had 2 goes at it and persevered but definately not for me

Lagavullin is very much an aquired taste, probably the strongest tasting of the Islay's. For a more gentle introduction I'd go for bruichladdich or a bowmore
