CaddyAid question

As i havent got the ridiculous amounts of money needed and only play about 3 different courses I have decided to use caddyaid on my mobile, the software is free and the courses are £10 each after that.

So, I downloaded the free software and chose the bluetooth option, it had my free course on there and every thing looked rosey till I clicked the "play golf" option, it had none of the distances.

I then deleted it and chose the GPS option but once that downloaded it just said "error"

Now my questions for anyone who has used this are.....

1. do you need to pair the blue tooth up with anything for it to work?
2. how much is it costing me on my phone when i'm downloading the software?
3. do you pay a roaming charge or gps charge whilst u are using the software out on the course for the gps to work?

Hopefully someone can help because i'm starting to think it'd be easier to spend the wonga!

I would imagine you would need to have a bluetooth GPS receiver as bluetooth on its own cannot give you a location.

GPS is free, it is just a receiver, nothing should be sent.

Most phones do not have GPS built in so if you want GPS functionality you can add one of these and your phone suddenly can use GPS signals.

GPS works by having several satellites sending out radio waves each containing a time stamp, the receiver then receives several signals from different satellites compares the time stamps and then does some maths to work out where you are, the more signals, the more accurate the position (roughly).

I have a Blackberry mobile with built in GPS, and was looking at CaddyAid the other week as an alternative to the free GPS golf app I already use. CaddyAid interested me because it says for £10 you get the "Strokesaver" type view of the holes. I downloaded the 3 hole demo for my own course, only to find the same thing, no distances displayed. Equally, I could not get the "Strokesaver" view to display either.

In addition, when I loaded the CaddyAid app onto my phone and then ran it, something stayed in memory and knocked out some of the phone features because there was not enough memory available. I couldn't get it to release the memory until I removed CaddyAid completely from the phone.

I contacted CaddyAid by e-mail and had no response for a week. I then contacted them by phone and was told that everyone was out of the office due to system problems, but the directors had taken the decision not to produce any "Strokesaver" views on any courses because they had been too inundated with requests, and they were too small a company to keep up with the work......


I currently use www.bbgpsgolf.com which is 100% free, if your course is unavailable, they give you the option of mapping it via google maps, and provide simple instructions on how to do it. Took me about half an hour or so, probably about an hour in total by the time I got everything loaded onto the phone. The CaddyAid option are now charging £10 for effectively the same, only yardage readouts, so in my opinion, it aint worth it, the free app I'm using does the job very well. From my experience, I wouldn't recommend CaddyAid at all.

I reviewed CaddyAid about 5 months ago, and it looks like their customer service and product are no better.
