Bullying at School ...

Great points, on top of education or part of, is to make it socially unacceptable. We need to stop the onlookers, the ones filming and egging them on, they are the ones we need to tell the others to stop.
What if it’s being filmed for the “right” reason, ie, to provide evidence?

I'll start by saying bullying and racism are both wrong, and I certainly don't condone either.

However, without sound on the video how do we know this is a racist incident?
It certainly doesn't make it ok, but we don't know the context. Maybe the kid being bullied did something to cause this reaction, I don't mean something that deserves such a response, but just a typical school drama thing, like like he "grassed them up" and would have got the same treatment whether black, white, asian and whatever religion.
It's still completely wrong and unacceptable, I just find people quick to assume the motives, before the facts are out there.

Then why not try and break it up at the same time? Not saying I have all the answers or know what is going on behind the camera. But in the case of this specific video in this thread, its clearly not being filmed for evidence.

I filmed a fight at a gig that was started by a woman in a wheelchair and ended in a brawl. I didn’t like how security were wading in on people who were just trying to break it up and I also worried the wheelchair bound woman would get away without punishment because of her disability.

Security saw me, I explained why I was recording it but they still threw me out. I waited outside the venue for police to arrive and they thanked me for the footage saying it was invaluable as CCTV in dark clubs is often pointless and told me they’d be speaking to the club owner so he knew not to bar me.

I agree in this specific case, but it could be a friend of the victim who’s too scared to get involved.
Maybe in some of these cases it stops the bully from lying their way out of it.

I watch kids footy every Sunday.. We have a great club, but somedays we run into clubs that take it to next level. I remember an incident where one of the opposition forwards was very good and drawing circles around us. At half time the coach came up with a plan to neutralise him by marking him strongly. Also given the kid was not sharing, it was a case of tie him down and keep the ball away from him. Soon he started getting frustrated as he was not able to break thru. He turned more aggressive and physical. At a point he tried to kick one of kids after he was tackled. in regular footy, that would be a straight red card, but the opposing coach looked the other way. They went on to win.

Post match, it was raised with the other coaches and they put it down to the 'kid is very passionate, talented and aggressive. he is a matchwinner and will go places' This is <10 yr grassroot footy.. Unfortunately, it reemphasises the wrong behaviour..

Right way to go but not the full picture. Lots of kids end up doing the wrong thing due to peer pressure or gang mentality.
But ultimately children do not follow the lead of their parents on a great many things no matter how strong the message from above is. Once you’re approaching puberty your peer group is a much bigger influence than your parents imo and all it takes is one bad apple in a group who’s good at influencing their mates and kids can do nasty things. It doesn’t make people inherently bad but we all have character flaws and these can manifest in different, horrible and unpredictable ways in children still finding their way in life.

I hear what you're saying, and of course children do silly / wrong / bad things because they are influenced by their peers, and sometimes these are small acts of rebellion. But there is a difference between smoking / drinking / petty shoplifting and deliberately setting out to cause someone intense pain. There is a line that shouldn't be crossed and personally I believe children should have a moral compass at a young age to know where that line stands.

Yes, I agree, and so do most , if not all, others. But that does not really change the fact that it is not true to maintain that if a child turns out bad it is always because the parents were at fault in their upbringing.
Every child is an individual and will make their own decisions at various times, as they grow up.
This means that they can decide to accept or reject any rules, teachings or moral compass shown to them, by others, including parents, teachers, youth leaders etc.

Today i broached the topic with my 11 yr old over breakfast before school run... Conversation was a bit chilling..and went a bit like this.

Me> Have you heard about an incident where a Sikh boy was bullied and hit by other boys outside his school. Has the school or the rest of the boys talked about it.
Nipper > No.. what happened

Me> <some explanation of the event> <based on his response i would tell him how to handle the issue>

N>> (shrugs shoulder).. No.. We have our own problems (long pause as he chews breakfast)
Me> ($hiting myself).. what happened.. esp worried, since he had hurt himself yesterday by tripping over during playtime

(long pause as he chews breakfast).. suspense is killing me

N>> You know that tree in the corner of the playground, (more chewing pause) some children stripped its bark at the bottom of the trunk. Now the top of the tree cant get nutrients and water. So the top of the tree is dead. But the school is investigating...
Me> (spat out my breakfast as tumbleweed roll by)
