Brown Grass v Green Grass

This may be a dumb question, but why do American golf courses have such brown grass? I'm used to seeing these beautiful green USA courses online and on TV, but then you realize that they're painted green. If you look at the edges, the underlying colour of the grass is brown. In the UK, I've rarely played inland courses that aren't lush and green. Is this due to a different type of grass being used on fairways etc? Or is it purely because the UK is constantly drenched in rain? Even though the UK is notorious for its wet weather, there are plenty of places in the US that experience heavy rains and they also appear to have brown grass on their courses.

When you see brown grass it is normally dormant Bermuda grass which will go green when the temperature is high enough.

When you see brown grass in the UK it normally means the grass is too hot.
