I was born in Timperley but left when I was 6, a good while ago ?. My gran lived there most of her life and so I used to go back until the late 90's when she died. Timperley was a village, nice 1930's houses, infant and primary schools, open spaces on the edge of Manchester. It developed into real commuter belt territory, for Manchester and the airport. My grans house was bought by a pilot for example. The housing outgrew the amenities which is why people from there would have got on the train, now the tram, to go to Altrincham or Manchester. I don't know if bars, restaurants etc have developed there now, haven't been back for a while.
It wouldn't be fair to call it boring but I understand your logic.
The centre of altrincham has had a real regeneration incidentally so a night out might be even better now ?
As I am relatively new to the forum I would like to know something. Has there ever been anything like "Post of the Year Award"?Miss T once booked us on a mystery weekend coach trip, we went on a Saturday morning after I finished a 12 hr night shift. We paid 50 p each to guess where we were going. We went to Hull. Bloody Hull. There were three sisters sat on the back seat. Apparently they always did the trips and always sat on the back seats. I heard one of the old biddies. ( youngest 82) say “ did he just say Hull”. I had tears rolling down my cheeks. I was knackered and going to Hull. missis T said to me “ do you want to close your eyes”. I said “ I want to close someone’s eyes but not mine”. It was crap and boring. I sat in a Wetherspoons for 2 hrs watching Chelsea v City. That night we were in the hotel and I was talking to the three sisters. I offered them a sherry. 2 said yes please. The eldest the matriarch said “ No they have had there One sherry for the weekend“ And if they went to bed.
After they went the coach driver sat with me and Missis T. He told us where we were going on the Sunday. He said “ I think the punters will be chuffed where we are going. cleethorpes. It’s a boring dump in February. I told Missis T I am walking home.
We got on the bus and as we were going over the Humber bridge, the coach driver told us where we were going. There was a stunned silence. We got there at 10.45. The coach driver said. It’s 10.45 what time do you want to meet back at the coach. One of the old biddies shouted “ 11.00 am please”. I was wetting me self laughing. I swear to god everyone was back on the coach at 12.00 midday. We called at Meadowhall on the way home as “ we cannot get back to soon.
Hull, cleethorpes and Meadowhall is
A, not a romantic mystery weekend.
B, boring.
I feel it’s my duty to defend Hull - but I can’t.
I've been to the East Mids Designer Outlet many times - its so close to the M1 that you can treat it as a Motorway services and just have a coffee, a bun and a wee.??????
I would say the same about Mansfield. But it’s that boring no one goes. ?
Coxmoor and Hollinwell are probably 10 mins from available car. ?I've been to the East Mids Designer Outlet many times - its so close to the M1 that you can treat it as a Motorway services and just have a coffee, a bun and a wee.
I bought my current car at Availablecar, but I have yet to venture any further along the A38.
I've not played Coxmoor or Hollinwell and I really ought to rectify that.
Ha ha, very remiss of me. Just a strange and wonderful character. Very bizarreBorn in Timperley and not mentioning Frank Sidebottom! ? I saw him at Reading. We all thought we'd go and support him as he was in a tent at the back and it would a shame if he was playing to nobody. It was rammed, with people climbing up the poles to see him. Brilliant night.
I gRew up with Mansfield as my local town. Used Retford instead.??????

It was of the few places that played my kind of music outside of London, certainly in that part of country anyway, the upstairs part of the mad hatters were good times for me anyway. I think I stopped about 89/ 90 and spent all my time in London then. Tbh I have good memories of Luton, it had a great record shop in Berry Park and all the junk shops up Hightown always had bargain guitars, amps and effects . Def miss those days.I lived there from 84 to 86. I call them my lost years.
Went in the The Hatters many times. I would not call it fantastic.
Mind you, I would be comparing it with my previous 5 years spent in the Toon Upon the Tyne where nights out down the Quayside were truly unsurpassable.
Waste of time trying it's tumbleweed in there. Most folk on here these days are more interested in football than golf.
All fabric shops.
