Well, today is the big day for Jan. She's off to Norwich to collect her new car (fire engine) :)
The train leaves Sleaford at 9.42 so phones up East midlands trains to buy a ticket at about 8.30.
The guy was very helpful. Confirmed the price, timings, connections etc. Took card details, all paid for and sorted. No waiting in a queue for us at the train station.
Luvly Jubly.
What could possibly go wrong.

Get to the train station, told to go to the platform to retreive the ticket. Type in the ref no. No ticket found
Spoke to the girl in the ticket office.
"When did you order the ticket?"
"About an hout ago"
"Well, that explains it. It takes a couple of hours for the order to go through the computer system
Can you help I asked.
No was the reply.
Do you have a phone?
Yes, but that wont help, just have to wait a couple of hours
The train leaves in 10 mins
Do BR have the special 1990s computers?

Anyway, Half an hour later, Jan texts me. A very nice ticket collector understands her situation and there's no problem or extra charge for travwelling without a ticket.

So, a guy on the telephone who let the order go through with n hour before the train leaves and a girl who was no help at all.
It just seems if the computer says so, there's nothing the human can do.

Feel better now :)

I know the feeling - i've had loads of problems with my car, both my local garage and ford have run their diagnostics test that show there are no issues, but it stalls when you put your foot on the clutch!

What ever happened when the computer diagnostics wern't around... god forbid they have a look under the bonnet for the problem!

BR?

I presume you drove to the club this morning in your British Leyland car and sent this post on your BBC Micro?

BR dies years ago.

I did think that too but thought surely no-one thinks British Rail still exists!

You'll be telling me that Tony Blair isn't Prime minister next :D
