Hi Everyone!

I'm booking a golfing trip to Portugal for about 20-25 people and wondered if anyone had any advice when arranging a golf trip of this kind?

I have already given consideration to the following but welcome further opinions on:

  • Provider (GolfBreaks / YourGolfTravel) - Any advice on gaining discount? currently there is an offer for a dozen TP5's which is hardly motivating!
  • Resort - Amendoira (Portugal) - unlimited golf on 2 courses, 1 P&P, practice facilities and Buggies included
  • Flights
  • Club hire - Optional for those that want it, any recommendations?
  • transfers - Included
  • Competition for those that are interested
  • What else have I missed?

Cheers!

I can highly recommend these guys.

Personally, Vilamoura is tough to beat as a place to stay. You've got pretty much all you need on the doorstep for golf and evening food/drink around the Marina.

Most of the hotels in Vilamoura will offer transfers to the golf courses via minivans.

We have had excellent service from Bilyana for our annual Belek trips for the past 8 years. They also do Portugal trips and have a UK office..

Have mostly used Golfbreaks for the last 10 years. Used Your Golf Travel for one trip, but went back to Golfbreaks and been happy with them. Usually do a couple of trips a year with them - Portugal/ Spain for the last 5 years.

I agree golfbreaks have always come good for us.

I'd say given the group size that you want somewhere with golf and hotel together - organising everybody to get up and get to a course a drive away will be hard work.

Likewise, any meals to be organised in advance so they have the table sizes for it if you are sticking together.

Team matchplay is always good and easy to do depending on number - have fourballs for opening rounds, singles (although still playing as a four so two matches) final day. If you prefer singles then just do stableford for each round and overall.

Yourgolfbreaks. Always best to pick a specialist company. Let them take the worry. Used them for both Spain and Portugal. Excellent service. Could probably have done it a bit cheaper but then you get to deal with some of the little hassles.

I'm no expert on golf trips abroad as I've only done it once but I'd suggest booking your flights as early as possible to get the best deals. Might be worth sending a few emails to golf package companies and see who can the best deal.

Like anything, booking for a group is a nightmare - get deposits first and then book them on. Even though there adults I don't think (men especially) understand how difficult and time consuming it can be trying to sort them out. Give them a deadline for deposits, maybe open up an account for them to pay into and they can pay in monthly etc and give them a deadline before the actually date to fully pay up. If they don't pay by that date they lose their deposit.

i've used golfbreaks and yourgolftravel both are good at what they do, its difficult to beat them for prices. i've gone independently and booking tee times in spain and portugal is pretty expensive (but the courses are fantastic).
Unless you do a lamanga or lacarla trip where you stay and play on the course .....

you might beat a YGT or GB price by a few quid if you DIY it but if any part goes wrong the rest goes tits up too. The price between them big boys will be good and not alot of difference between them. Book the lot with a recognised golf agent and it'll go smoothly and be at a price which is very competitive.
Oh, and make sure everyone on the trip has decent travel insurance.
