Personally I wouldn't walk to my local if Dylan was playing there tonight, even if it meant watching the mighty Eagles getting doshed by West Ham on MOTD,

And to think he has had one of the biggest influences, on singers/musicians that followed him. Even Bruce Springsteen says Dylan was his major influence.

Reflecting back to the early 1960's when Dylan appeared on the music scene, he brought a certain originality and change to the typical ballad songs that prevailed. I found his style exiting and different, it reflected the 'Protest' movement that was going on at this time, challenging the normal and bringing something the young could embrace.

His voice was not polished, his style a raw mix of folk and blues but I found it refreshing and different. When I look at the stuff spewed out of the homogenous Simon Cowl era of today, he stands head and shoulders above them.

In My Opinion of course ;)

That's how it should sound. Not that's slushy pop sound of the Byrds.

Great link SR. Mr Tambourine Man (original version, much as I like the Byrds) is one of my all time favourites and is on my funeral list.

Don't think anyone can get the meaning out of the songs like Dylan himself and after a few listens I think you get used to and appreciate his style. The originals work best for me in terms of telling me something rather than having something nice to listen to and for me that is really what Dylan is about.

I like Dylan's version of his songs. Agree with SR and others, his voice was unique but goes hand in hand with his tunes. My favourite below;

I don't think anyone could have done this song better.
