Why on earth does the perennially skint BBC persist with the waste of cash that is the coverage of this yawnfest. They say that golf coverage is boring. The most memorable thing in the past few decades was when one of them had the decency to sink. On top of that it's the ubiquitous bloody Clare Balding at the helm just to add to the excitement of it all.I suppose the upper echelons of the Beeb bulges with the alumni of the Oxbridge colleges and that they don't want to let down their chums.

They should move the venue around the UK as a sign of 'all in it together'.

I would love to watch those boats going under a Clyde bridge.:o

Wow.............that was a bit scary, just clicked on the news of the England fans on a bridge in Amsterdam.

Dont mind this one tbh, bit of tradition and it's the only time outside an olympic year I'd watch rowing. It wouldn't work extending it to other Universities or taking it about the UK imo. If BBC want to pick it up for cheap because no other broadcaster wants it then fine. I appreciate the Beeb milk it as an event but if you just watch the actual race it's ok. Dont mind Balding either, at least it's not Lineker!

Good idea, lets have teams from Oxford and Cambridge travel all the way north to race along the Humber:rolleyes:
And are you incapable of replying to a thread without having a dig at the English? Its quite pathetic really...

I find it funny that you thought my tongue in cheek suggestion was serious, and took the bother to write a serious reply.;)

Not good behaviour of the England soccer fans in Amsterdam though I hope you agree with me there.

The problem is Doon that we never know if you are serious or joking , but the constant stream of anti English digs is starting to wear thin.

If it’s a jokey post, then use emoticons, if you don’t then it’s no wonder that people will react

I stuck him on ignore weeks ago. I got totally fed up of his racist digs, which, on occasion, he chooses to try and hide with a smiley.

I did consider that - which would be a first! It drags the forum down and makes it a place I'd rather not frequent if his name appears on pretty much any thread, in particular in OOB :(

It can spoil the thread in a discussion, but when you look at what he adds to a debate 'v' the insidious poison its worth it.

More people watch the boat race than watch golf events - I suspect rowing fans prob look at a golf and think - people really watch that ?

Seems the BBC can’t do right from wrong - slated for not showing commitment to sport then slated for showing an event that’s watched by over 7 mil each year

And Claire Balding for me is the best sports presenter on telly - just superb

Back to the Boat Race please we can bash Doon later

For me? Oxford to win 

put me also down for Oxford, but ave never even been there so don't know why ave always rooted for them. What's the odds on one of the boats sinking 😁

I love the boat race. The day out is superb with a fantastic atmosphere.

A 189 year old race between the two most famous universities in the world? Why the hell not?

Oxford for me
