Blue Mountain golf course?

A few times but not for several years, big greens from what I remember but sadly that's all I remember. Homer might be able to give you more info.

yeah - a perfectly fine P&P; shoudl be in nice condition with the good weather we have been having.

12 and 13 you have to tee off from inside a big long net - you get a free mulligan if you hit teh stanchions or nets, which is suprisingly common

Decent enough. They have worked hard in the last few years to build up the membership side of things and so with a mixture of members (usually in comps) and visitors it can get a bit slow. There are some holes that need thinking about and the rough is that horrid clover type grass where the ball nestles down. It's not long but still makes find a ball hard. The greens are quite big and tend to be pretty slow. The bunkers are probably the biggest let down with variable amounts of sand and lots of hidden stones.

It's worth the money to play. It is a good test of golf and most of the holes are pretty fair. Only five minutes from my house but the pace of play puts me off nipping up there regularly. The range is a bland and the balls are rubbish so if you are going to warm up save the money and only get a small bucket.

I'm a pay and play member at BM, its where I play my comps and it suits me because like Homer, I'm quite local to it.

My other course is 35 minutes away which is where I play most - socially.

BM is OK I like it and I think Homer is spot on with his review. I recently returned to the club after a long, long time away so like it perhaps for more nostalgic reasons rather than anything else. The course is steadily on the up and improvements are ongoing all the time. Still some ways to go especially with the water management side of things, in drought periods there simply isnt enough water in the system so tees take a hit.

The members are a good bunch and the comps are now run very well (never used to be).

The greens are coming back from some treatment about a month ago and are looking very good at the moment. The greens are massive by the way :D

Some nice holes, some bland ones and some down right bloody unfair ones - lol. You will see what I mean when you see the 6th, you can be punished by hitting a nice straight drive because a tree is in the middle of the narrow fairway. Some people lay up with a rescue or less, whilst others (myself included) open the shoulders with a drive and hope for the best.

On the whole its forgiving and you can spray it about a bit. However, the 14th (par 3) and 15th (par 4) are stingers just because of the length, not so bad this time of year or when still, but in winter or when the wind gets up many will not reach the green in regulation on either hole.

If I knew I would have put you off playing a weekend because it can be slow (I never do unless I'm in a comp) but you might be OK.

Good luck and report back on how you got on.

Brilliant thanks guys! :) Sounds like a course similar to Pine Ridge.

Homer/Sawtooth - no mention of this net/stanchion thingy on 12/13 in your posts, raised in an earlier post? I guess this is nothing then??

Be carefull on the 17th as there is a ditch across the front of the green which you won't be able to see as you take your 2nd shot so you won't be able to roll a ball onto the green.

In the 20 years or so i've been playing at Blue Montain, i think i have NEVER reached the green on the 13th.

A par on the 14th is a seriously good achievement (so is 7), and getting on eth green in 2 at 17 is always something that brings you back again.

Good entertaining course

After playing it yesterday in glorious sunny, but windy, conditions, I have to say that the course was better than I had expected! :)

It was a good lay out, with a mixture of easy and tough holes, with course management the key. We didn't invest in a course planner (none of us had played there before) thus we were guessing where to go most of time; hole marker posts by the tee did help though! Whoever mentioned that the greens were big - too right, they were massive!!

Highlights: birdie on 7, driving the green on 12 for bird, par on 15. Shooting 75.
Lowlights: starting 5, 7; missing a few straightish birdies putts.

In all, a very nice public track, well priced, with enough variety to keep the interest.

I will definitely go back! :)
