Just managed to shoot a gross 80 nett 63 in our Monthly Medal, and shed 1.8 off my handicap, but believe it or not, I still feel disappointed. I went out in 37, 2 over gross, stood on the 15th only 5 over, then managed to play the last 4 holes in +5. So although it was the best round of golf I've managed to put together, I've still not managed to break the elusive 80.....it was there for the taking.

I must say, the couple of lessons are working wonders, and the swing change is starting to come together, so hopefully I will be in good shape come the spring time to have another crack at breaking that 80.

Nice one...

this game can be really mean to us... look at the positives though... you had a poor last few holes and still managed a really really good score that most players would be well happy with.

all you need to do is take the momentum forwards onto the next round and you'll break 80 easy.

:)

PMA!!!!!

Well done - your thinking about it the wrong way though, you shot your best score and left a few out there, thats a good thing it shows that you can go much lower.

Nice Job.

Don't worry when you shoot a Gross 76, you will sit in the bar annoyed at yourself for the 3 putt !!! I've been there !!

If you managed that round in what was probably not ideal conditions, given the time of year, just think what you can do in spring/summer next year !!!

Nice shooting Twire. Having done something similar in consecutive rounds this year (I'll see your +5 and raise you +6 over the last three) I can feel your pain. I tried to focus on the decent (not great) bal striking and the fantastic short game and putting I had going. Keep the faith because if you can score this well in tricky conditions it can only bode well for the future. That elusive barrier is there for the taking

Well done Twire, great shooting especially at this time of year. Did you know what your score was with 4 to play ? and had you worked out a potential final score ?

I have certainly been there.

Hi Twire good shooting mate. When you had 4 holes to play did your score get mentioned or did you start thinking about how good it was going to be. Sometimes not knowing is a blessing. I have suffered from this in the past, that's why I asked. Now I take one hole at a time and work out the score when I've finished.

In the bag:-

Golf is a game of numbers, the higher the number the worse you feel!!!!

No, I never add my score up halfway round and always tell my playing partners that I don't want to know. I new I was playing well but didn't know the actual numbers.

Nice work Twire . . .just out of curiosity , what swing changes have you made ??

The grip has slightly changed, more across the fingers rather than in the palm. This has allowed more wrist cock. i.e. when my left arms parallel to the ground, the club is vertical, and at that stage I rotate from the hips. I'm a lot more compact and controlled now, and can fizz through the ball. I've gained about 5-10 yards on each iron, and I'm hitting my 3 wood longer than I used to hit driver.

This is a great change from the long slow swing I used to have.
