Billy McNeil

Used to see him occasionally up at the Mearns Castle Range and literally everybody stopped swinging/teeing up/talking when he walked onto the range, such was the respect and and awe that he was held in(and I'm a bluenose!)The great thing about the man was that he spoke to everyone who said hello to him....even the young kids there with their dads.
A great man and leaderwho was one of the first to call Ibrox when Rangers lost out in the Cup Winners Cup Final shortly after Celtic had won the European Cup(the first time two teams from the same city had made the European finals in the same year!-Willie Henderson(Rangers and Scotland Winger)said that Cesar really wanted us to make it a memorable achievement for the city of Glasgow!

I was fortunate to get to know Billy when I moved up to Scotland having become friends with his family. He was always a gentleman and the warmth and affection he has amongst all I speak to speaks volumes for the man. His funeral next week will be something to behold as everyone pays their respects. The achievement of him and that Celtic team of 1967 I don't think will ever be equalled again.

Really sad news about Stevie Chalmers especially coming so soon after the loss of Billy McNeill.
A true legend who lived his life to the full bouncing back from a really serious life threatening illness (Tuberculosis) as a 20 year old to become an outstanding footballer with the undoubted football highlight scoring the winning goal in the 1967 European Cup Final amongst many more. An inspriational figure who will be dearly missed by his friends and family.

RIP Stevie Chalmers
