Bikers ?

Did you watch that relative thing last night with Minnie Driver? My mrs made me watch it, was pretty interesting actually! she found a cousin she never knew she had.. i would have been P'd off is she only turned up with a box of biscuits! bring cash!

Actually no I didn't I was busy getting irratated by some tit at the range.. But have been made to watch it in the past with others on there and the Davina one! I always think that when I see it don't turn up with some pointless gift turn up with something meaningful like suitcase of cash!

Yep, had bikes in the past. Going to give away my age now, last bike I had was a Laverda Jota (just typing the name makes the hairs on my neck stand up). What a machine that was in it's day!!

Anyone old enough to remember them?

Yup, absolute beast of a bike, back in the day when the Dunlop TT 100 was the mutt's nuts of a tyre. Can you still crush walnuts with your left hand as a result of using that clutch?

Haven't owned one for a while, though did stop and drool over a Ducati Multistrada today, getting the itch to get another one........

Nice to see this thread resurrected. just remembered I had a Yam. FJ1200. Lovely bike, went like stink and can still feel the front rising under acceleration (soft suspension). The brakes weren't up to the weight.
Had to do a very slow 100 degree uphill turn in a city: feet up (as you should): all well until half way round when Newton got to work and the bike flopped over with me standing astride it. Very embarrassing. It took a lot effort (with help) to get it vertical again.
Went out for good run a few days ago on the Honda VFR800. lovely jubbly.

Might explain my strong left hand grip

When I left school we all mucked about on bikes. My first real bike, real back then, was an Ariel Arrow. I had a tuned engine, went like stink and returned about 30 to the gallon. Had a few bikes after that, I even went Japanese.
For many years I never looked at a bike then went to the racing when the likes of Mckenzie Hislop Simpson Moodie were all at the top of their game. I then started doing some write ups for my local paper, got myself accreditation and started doing small articles for various magazines and race programmes.
I followed the BSB for a few years and got to know a good few of the riders, some very well. I was just getting to know Steve Hislop when he was tragically killed in his helicopter. Steve was a complex man but his riding ability was world class.
After about ten years of racing I just couldn’t be bothered when most of the top scottish riders retired. It didn’t have the same attraction for me and it took up a full weekend from Thursday to Monday, and lots of travelling.
So back to the golf course

Interesting little piece of background Tommo. I've changed my opinion of you from knob to top bloke ;)

Honda C50 then a FS1E in the mid-70's, passed my test and got a Suzuki 380 and then when I went to Germany I got a kettle (GT750) and nearly killed myself in a nasty crash (not my fault). Had to promise parents who flew out that I wouldn't ride again, I never have :(

Used to love them and going to race meetings.
