Best Way To Keep Cats Off My Lawn?

We acquired 2 young cats last year when my daughter came back to live with us. At first they used flower beds, which was bad enough, but then for some reason got lazy and just started using the lawn. Here is a list of things I've tried after recommendations on the internet, none of which worked :-

Ultra sonic cat scarers
Various brands of cat repellent powder
Citrus juice and peelings
Coffee grounds
Herbs such as rosemary etc
Building a dedicated toilet, basically a patch of soil with grit and sand

The only thing that's stopped them is getting a litter box for the house - not ideal but at least the garden is ok now.

Frustrating thing is we've always had cats but never had this problem until now - they've always done it in other peoples gardens I presume. Karma I suppose!

Best solution is a deckchair and half a house brick - the deckchair is for me.

Ok, I dont actually throw the brick to hit the cat - but it makes a satisfying clatter when it hits the fence which scares the bejayzus out of them. They learn soon enough.

Twire is right, cats go in flower beds, not on grass.

Further to your question, water pistols are fine if you are happy to stay out 24hrs at a time and want to spend your days hunkered ready to fire. A neighbour of mine has bottles of half filled water dotted around the garden, lying on their sides. For some reason that seems to work. Simple and cheap if it does work.

WRONG!!!! Very Very WRONG!!!! They poo where they like. Grass / anywhere. Especially in my garden!!! I'm trying to block off their routes in and out. Oh and dogs are useless. Cats can outwit them no mither. Next door has two BIG dogs which poo everywhere. Cats wander in without any concern, then into mine. They can also outwit me...so far......

Am I not allowed to suggest a sniper then?
Someone had already suggested me as a means of deterrent armed with a .50 calibre. Within about 15mins someone had deleted the comment then Fragger appeared with his warning ?..
Shame because I was going to reply with there is plenty of people I would happily shoot but I'd never harm an animal ??‍♂️

That's very shouty!..Most cats will dig a hole, poo in it, then cover it up. You sure your neighbors not throwing his dog :poop: over the fence? Just askin :)

QUOTE="Orikoru, post: 2138384, member: 22581"]Ok, here's something not virus-related to talk about at least!

Just mowed the lawn and there was cat :poop: everywhere. I see at least three or four different cats wandering through our garden all the time. What methods have worked for you to stop cats :poop:ing on the grass or keeping them out of the garden altogether?[/QUOTE]

One of the things I would say is mow the lawn more often.

When I have seen signs of this on my grass it is when the grass is long.

Yeah it's all a bit out of sight out of mind for cat owners. They should be punishable with fines if a cat craps in your garden.

That's actually a bit of a myth. Some cats will but it's not that usual, most others will just crap where they see fit. We have 7 cats around us and for most of last year the little buggers messed my lawn up something terrible. Now that our cat is old enough to get out and is completely antisocial to all other living things, she patrols the garden and keeps the others out. And then takes a dump on the grass!
