The sands at Gullane beach used to reach as far as the 2nd tee at Muirfield. Within my lifetime.
Bents restoration work means that the sea is now half a mile away.
Muirfield has probably changed from a links to an upland links within 50 years.

Pretty sure the current layout is the 3rd version - apparently an improvement on the 1891 version described as [FONT=georgia, times new roman, times, serif]'nothing but an auld watter meddie'. Sea Hole at Musselburgh is certainly now long way from the sea! [/FONT]​
