I use Loopr which is free and find recording stats an easy way to identify areas of my game to work on.

Does anyone have any other suggestions so I can see whether there is a better option.

12 months of my stats are at

This highlights just how little i play these days but im a bean counter and like to study stats anyway.
It must deal in gross scores, not interested in any nett stats whatsoever!!
I do like the fact you can record 9 hole stats on loopr which helps me get into scoring mode even when I only have an hour or 2 to spare!!!

I'm sorry but for the sake of a one off hit of £35 I think scoresaver2 knocks spots off the information given here. Not only can you record part rounds but it has facilities to record practice sessions and lessons for referral at a later date. You can produce reports for your pro to tailor lessons to cover weaknesses and record match results. Quite simply the complete package. Yes you have to pay but that £35 is a one time payment (and if you PM SS2 you may get a discount) and you get a much better service and more statistics than you can shake a stick at.

Yeah left Southport & Ainsdale GC after 25 years as a member (broke my heart) after relocating nearer to my wifes family after starting a family of our own.
Homer I dont do lessons, just video myself and watch it back.
I had free county coaching for 10 years and know pretty much every fault and cure for my swing,I just need to see it with my own eyes.
Having said that I like the sound of
"more stats than you can shake a stick at"

Please, Please, don't take this the wrong way - I could only dream of stats like yours but, assuming that you have 4 par 3's, then you are on average 1 over on them. I would have expected a 2 h/c to be at least par or 1 under on the par 3's on his home course. That could bring you down to scratch :).

Playing off 13, I'm averageing 3.74, 5.06 and 5.83 on par 3, 4 and 5's respectively (Scoresaver 2) so I need to concentrate on more GIR on par 4's

you should come and play the par 3's at Ascot then!

At Winterfield GC Dunbar the first hole is 238, not bad until you see that to hit the green it's a 220 carry or you're in a 50 foot gully. The 8th is 250, 9th with the OOB road running up the side 236, 10th with OOB road to the left 212, 11th 197, 14th over the sea 202 and the 15th along the side of the beach 234.

Where do you think I learned my short game.

You forgot to mention the wind at Winterfield. Its so strong it blew some of the clubhouse away :D

What is the course record there? Can't see it being much below par

I think if you look at all your good madal scores over the past few years you will see that you have either played the par 3's in par or better.

I think I will keep my stats this season from March onwards, it will be interesting to see where i squander my shots and what areas I can improve on. I had a look on that loopr which is mentioned but it does not have my course. Think I may look further into what homer is plugging!

If you email loopr they will add any course for you within 48hrs.
I have downloaded homers suggestion and it is very comprehensive.
It gives basically the same information as per stats but is much more in depth as far as viewing them and the way it is layed out.
Im trying out the 1 month free version before parting with any money

You certainly won't regret it. I agree with Homer that SS2 does all it says on the can and more. I find the ability to print out scorecards with all the necessary graphical prompts for stats is really helpful. It even informs you of when you can claim shots (not a frequent occurrence for you maybe, but helpful to mortals!).

Let us know how you get on with it.

I tried to download the free month SS2 but it wouldn't happen on my laptop for some reason...Pity, but There is a stats program with my new sat nav anyway, so I supose I have my solution, even though the idea of the SS2 does seem very good, if of course I could have managed to download it..lol

The pros at my club are planning to trial stats software this season with the idea of implementing it across the whole club if it proves popular.
The idea is that you mark up a 'punch card' for every hole on every round, home and away. A reader then downloads the data.
I can't help but think this can only add considerably to the time it takes to play a round given the length of discussions just to record a gross. Now they also have to record which club they used for which shot, left/right or on the fairway, left, right, short or long of the green and when you're on the green, where you are.
