Greatest Hits radio ran a list at the weekend, see below

My own favourites, a toss up between Fine Young Cannibals, Suspicious Minds, and Soft Cell, Tainted Love. What can I say, I'm a child of the 80's 🤷

Caught parts of this over the weekend and I turned it on when it was half way through “ knocking on heavens door” by guns and roses. Quality song.

Not my favourite but I would imagine “I will always love you” by Whitney would be popular among the nation if polled.
I’m going to have a think of my favourite.

Two for me.......The Disturbed's incredible version of Sound of Silence......

and Heart's live Kennedy Centre performance of Stairway to Heaven, made even more special as the audience included the members of Led Zeppelin, plus John Bonham's son playing drums. Their reaction is very moving.

Really, really, cant pick a favourite but a few notable mentions are

Rodrigo & Gabriela - Orion (or indeed, Stairway to Heaven off the same album)
Talking Heads - Take me to the River
The Slits - I heard it through the Grapevine
The Stranglers - Walk on By

There's 2 ways to do a cover...
1. A straight "copy"
2. A complete reworking keeping elements of the original.
P.us they have to be Live...you can do anything with a studio and a million tracks and overdubs

Personal choice here but both have been done by my current faves The Warning - 3 sisters from Mexico aged 20, 22 and 24 when these were recorded 18 months to 2 years ago..
1. The straight copy

2. The Rework..

Another, which I suppose is not strictly a cover version, is “Something’s gotten hold of heart” by Gene Pitney & Marc Almond.

Not technically a re-release either, just a great version imo.
