best course youve ever played?

Ailsa course at Turnberry for me. Magic. Carnoustie was very very good too but very very difficult.

Whilst I like Forest Pines (and only 20 mins from me too), I don't think it's anywhere in the league of those two and some of the other mentioned.

Turnberry - Ailsa Course.

Was lucky a few years ago as the company I worked for had corporate membership and we just had to use it to entertain clients. :) :)

I played it a couple of years ago on the same deal but from the other angle, I managed to blag may way into an invite. :) :) Fantastic course and the best I've played by a country mile.

RCD? Too blommen difficult. Woodhall Hotchkin, may be. Pearl Valley or Erinvale, hmm, San Isidro BA, jeez, it's hard to make a choice. I could bung in Magnolia, or Palm, or Lake BV. Ah, there is another track I played in Fl, in the middle of nowhere which was just stunning, flip knows what the heck it was called though.

But for every day, I would stick with my home track. West Herts. Not amazing, but feels like home.

what is the best golf course youve ever played ,anywhere around the world and why ?

Depends on what you mean by "best" I suppose. I loved playing Doonbeg although I found it incredibly hard, likewise Lahinch. But for me the best course I've played for location, picturesque holes, test of golf and without doubt warmest welcome in the club house has to be Ballybunion.

Very very tough question.

Loch Lomond was truely outstanding, Machrihanish is a links masterclass, Turnberry is also a beautiful course, Western Gailes is awesome as well.

Machrie is a gem of a course, however I believe that if I was forced to play one of them everyday for the rest of my life I would have to plump for Machrihanish.

Angel Park Las Vegas (Mountain Course) How they manage to keep golf courses so green in the middle of the desert I'll never know.

Also thought Formby Hall was a cracker as well.

Following Didsbury Duffer's lead

Scotland: Turnberry Ailsa
Wales: Langland Bay (The Mumbles)
Ireland: Stackstown (Padraig's home course)
England: Hoylake (Royal Liverpool)
Europe: Old Course Vilamoura
Rest of World: Emirates GC Dubai (Majalis Course)

Best of the lot - Emirates GC

It has to be the Brabazon

Not that is that spectacular, just that the second best is probably Purley Downs.

( ask Homer - he must have played it )

:(

I've only played a few but my 2 best would be;

Nefyn & district ( old back 8)

Moor allerton ( 10-27 )

I really rated forest pines but Moor allerton got the nod just.

Also Pine cliffs in portugal was superb but only 9 holes.

not played any of the 'big name' courses yet, hoping to get on a few this year, the belfry, slayley hall and woodhall spa on my wishlist, the best i played last year was the middlesborough golf club(brasscastle) really good parkland course in excellent condition!

It's Carnoustie for me, too. A real big boy's course and I'd never tire of playing it. Probably the best bunkering I've ever seen on a golf course. Just oozes class from start to finish. Only played it the twice so far but I'd die a happy man if I broke 80.

Carnoustie would be mine too, Dornoch has better scenery but as JF says Carnosustie oozes class and Carnoustie has a very tough closing stretch.

As an inland course Spay Valley is going to be hard to beat, just think it needs a year or two for the greens to bed in a bit more.
