Homer made a good post but it might distract from an existing thread. I thought I would start a specific thread for it. Homer, I hope you don't mind me copying what you put, if you do let me know and I will edit it out:

It would be interesting to see an XI based on seeing players live and sure everyone on here would have their own side in mind

Sitting here thinking and its so hard as so many keep popping up and so in no particular formation

Shilton
Bobby Moore
Phil Neal
Tony Adams
Ashley Cole

George Best
Steven Gerrard
Kenny Dalglish
Glenn Hoddle

Ian Rush
Gary Lineker (or good old "Ivor" Gordon Davies from his Fulham days as a sentimental pick)

My own LT XI

Southall

Neal
Hansen
Ratcliffe
Cole

Trevor Steven
Souness
Hoddle
Giggs

Rush
Dalglish

No problem at all and you are right it probably would detract from the other thread so thanks for that. Good side although I was looking at best British XI (based on the Gascgoine conversation) so not sure we can allow Kompany unless they have given him a British passport in the last few weeks!!!!!!

I've had a mare. Thank you for pointing that out. How embarrassing o_O

Beezerk, who is making a tackle in your midfield? You have a team full of pretty boys but no one to win the ball? You need to get an ugly player in there :D (great fun watching them attack though)

Blimey such hard choices

I’ll go with players I have seen play

Shilton

Neal
Hansen
Ferdinand
Cole

Giggs
Souness
Gerrard
Barnes

Dalglish
Lineker

If going on players “reputation”

Banks

Neal
Moore
Hansen
Cole

Best
Gerrard
Charlton
Barnes

Dalglish
Lineker

Ok, I'm only going to go with players I've actually witnessed playing in my lifetime.

Seaman
G.Neville - King - Terry - Cole
Lampard - Gerrard - Scholes
Le Tissier - Shearer - Bale
Probably forgot loads as I pretty much riffed that off the top of my head. I'm a bit sad that I couldn't find space for Becks.

LP, amazed you went Lineker over Rush. What was your thinking there?
It was very very close and I changed my mind about 6 times
By the width of a cig paper Lineker was a better finisher - and also did it abroad and on the international stage in the big games

Now Rush whilst not as good as a finisher was just superb as a first defender as well plus involved in the build up play. He obviously didn’t get the chance at the big stage internationally and then struggled a little at Juve

But it’s a toss of the coin and maybe didn’t want it to look too Liverpool bias 😂

Personally I'd drop Bale for Beckham (not a bad sub either way though)

Ray Clemence
Kevin Beattie
Terry Butcher
Tony Adams
Gary Neville
Paul Scholes
Steve Gerrard
Glenn Hoddle
Matt Le Tissier
Peter Beardsley
Gary Liniker

All England. Are there any other teams in the UK & NI? Tempted by Best but the Liniker/Beardsley partnership is probably the best I've seen, even eclipsing Toshack/Keegan. Left back was a problem, Beattie or Terry Cooper? The midfield I'm happy with 2 decent tacklers in Scholes and Gerrard, both of which also had superb pass completion rates. The formation then took a bit of a twist with both Hoddle and especially Le Tissier pushing forward. Although on paper its a 4-4-2, in reality there would be times when it morphs into a 4-3-3/4-2-4.

Taken from the Kevin Keegan/Newcastle school of management, its a score more than the opposition selection.

Can't remember who said it re City last year but it was said with all Citys pretty playing footballers, who is gonna tackle. City came 20th in tackling last year. Think one of the thes point with Beezerks team is who is going to get the ball of fur hem

The difference between City with and without Fernandinho was pretty big though. I get your point, if City play keep ball then the opposition can't score. You can't go up against the very best doing that though, against cheeky teams who don't water the pitch etc. It gets you so far and it is glorious to watch but ultimately it will be limited.

This is fantasy stuff though so perhaps defensive midfielders are not required.

If Roy Keane had been a brit he'd be in for Scholes but alas he's not..
