Amazing that a 17 year old amateur can be in the top 10 at the US Open after 3 rounds. He must be one for the future. Anyone giving odds on him being able to post another par round on Sunday and stay in the top 10?

Maybe...but all the hype...he's not exactly the tiger woods of Ireland he has been made out to be.

Over rated IMO, quality golfer yes, but very very overrated

Jack Nicklaus (who the hell is he?) seems to rate Rory and his swing a lot higher than you. But then what has he ever done in this game??

Not maybe, fact.

Sorry, but how can the world no. 2 be very very over rated please?

Well...tell me, in comparison to say these non hyped players like dufner and mahan how Mcilroy has fared this year?

His swinging...yh maybe that's great accordingly to an old timer (legend), if that was the only thing that mattered surely he'd win everything? But it's not, so he's not.

Your figures don't really stack up too well to be honest.....

Dufner has played practically double the events Rory has and Mahan has played 4 more.

Rory has the same top 10s as Dufner and a couple more than Mahan.

The two Americans have converted one more win, but they have just over half the OWGR points that Rory has accumulated.

What is it about trying to knock sports stars, can 't we just enjoy their ability and watch them trying their best to beat each other??

Not sure what all that means..

But of course you're right, Dufner and Mahan are no1. and 2 in the Fed Ex points having played 14 and 12 events respectively. I wonder where Rory would be if he had played the same amount of events as oppossed to only 8.
Lets compare where Rory, Dufner and Mahan are on the Race to Dubaii ???

Googled "Rory McIlroy US Open Records" and got this from the Golf Channel website.

Rory McIlroy's victory at the U.S. Open set many records. Here is a list of his accomplishments:
– The 268 total breaks the 72-hole scoring record of 272 previously held by Jack Nicklaus (1980),Lee Janzen (1993), Tiger Woods (2000) and Jim Furyk (2003).
– The 16 under total broke the 72-hole scoring record for most strokes under par. Tiger Woods (12 under) was the previous record-holder in 2000.
– At 22 years, 1 month, 15 days, McIlroy is the youngest U.S. Open champion since Bob Jones (1923) at 21 years, 3 months, 28 days.
– McIlroy became the fourth player in U.S. Open history to shoot four rounds in the 60s. Billy Casper was the first in 1966, then Lee Trevino followed in 1968 and Lee Janzen in 1993.
– Hit 62 of 72 greens in regulation; the most in a U.S. Open since the statistic has been tracked.
– McIlroy is the first player in U.S. Open history to reach 13 under, 14 under, 15 under, 16 under and 17 under.

Did the same for Hunter Mahan and got this from Yahoo news

Hunter Mahan records a triple bogey on the 6th hole during Round 2 of the US Open..

:D

Correction tiger woods of northern Ireland :)

Think you're being a bit harsh on him. Yes he's had a rough two months but check out his record before the masters. In the 25 starts before the masters he was only outside the top 10 in 5 tournaments. That's impressive!!

Beau seems to be handling himself well but tonight will be a real test of his credentials. Not really sure what it has to do with Rory. Not sure too many people are building Beau up to be the next big anyone. I hope he can finish his studies, play a few amateur events and be allowed to decide when and if he turns pro without a mountain of expectation thrust on him when he does.
